Firstly - it seems really strange to me that you're in your second year and don't have a supervisor?? Is that allowed?
Secondly, if I did my PhD all over again, I wouldn't compromise on the type of supervisor I felt that I needed, even if they are very hard to find!! I'm not sure how useful other students' opinions are when trying to find your ideal supervisor. It's really a very individual thing - I guess if they answer objectively and give you the honest facts ("this is how it is" rather than "I like my supervisor") then it's worthwhile. I personally would be reluctant to recommend (or otherwise) my supervisor to any prospective student because I wouldn't want the responsibility of it turning out really bad for them.
If you haven't known your supervisor long (less than one year?) then I'd say this is just a side of her personality that you haven't seen yet. It might not happen very often but you'll know now to be prepared for it to happen again, and it probably doesn't mean much (if it happens very infrequently).
I've had my supervisor 'snap' and the first time it happened I was left completely stunned and in tears too. You'll probably get an apology.
I've said before on this forum (a long time ago) that one of the things my PhD has taught me is to wait a LONG time before claiming that I really 'know' anyone. I think what you've just experienced, whatever the cause (you might never know) is simply a not very nice part of getting to know your supervisor.
This thread has inspired me...other things I want to do when I submit: see the Simpsons movie, trace my ancestors and spend MORE THAN 15 minutes (!!!) for lunch at one of the nice places my bus takes me past in the mornings but which are too far away from my building to get to and back when I'm supposed to be working.
Yup, footnotes are officially a nightmare. I've never really used them properly until now (thesis) - not sure what I did in the past...maybe 'fake' footnotes - small font bit at end of page. I found I kept getting blank pages everywhere that I couldn't delete because of the section breaks (sorted now).
