(in no particular order)
1. buses - they come 20 minutes late for weeks, then a new driver gets the route and leaves five minutes early...
2. library computers just having switched to new version of word mid-thesis. It's really quite difficult to get used to!
3. items that swing when you wear them (mp3 player, a particular necklace)
4. pipes in lab that have condensation which drips everywhere on a bad day (including on me - horrible cold drips down back of neck ). Not a pleasant working environment!
5. the people (I suspect it's more than one) who don't a certain cold tap in the ladies' off properly. It's just utter laziness, and I feel obliged to turn it off for 'them' any time I'm in. Have often thought of leaving a note.
As for low salary - I've been thinking about this a lot recently. I've been looking at postdoc positions (which I'm not going to apply for), and it really shocks me that I could be paid £100 per day (365-weekends) for what I'm doing now - and (forum aside) I work HARD! Maybe it's just my upbringing, but does that not shock anyone else?? And that's a postdoc salary of £26k!!! The minimum in academia (in science, from what I've seen).
Has anyone seen those programs on Sky and the like called 'pets gone bad' (with normally cute kitties going psycho and leaping six feet in the air and so on...) or 'weather gone bad' or something...it just seems like the right time to mention them.
'Supervisors gone bad'.
I guess there are some good supervisors out there, but while UFO says 'supervisors are some of the most giving human beings around I've found. And they work crazy hours under high pressure for low salary' I'm sure he/she realises there are some REALLY bad ones too...and it just seems so unfair for those who are landed with the bad ones.
Did anyone else see this?? http://musicnews.virginmedia.com/news/?news_id=20437
Wouldn't it be great if Brian May came to the forum?...or was already here!
Hello! I probably shouldn't have made a face at you as your first reply! (in the 'last to post on this thread wins' thread)
I missed you - I thought you'd gone for good - your last post was two months ago!! Can't think of any gossip...umm...I suspect H's recent disappearance means shes's getting wed but I haven't mentioned that 'til now.
