Thanks Keenbean, seems mine will be around 98,000 (within the word limit) after I write the conclusion chapter which I am assuming to be around 8000 words. I also have 1.5 spacing. I do have some charts/graphs in one chapter which makes the page number increased to 280+ The references are not counted in the words right? My Uni does not say this clearly but colleagues say that the references, appendices, even acknowledgement pages are not counted...just the chapters !

That thesis is 353 pages including Appendices. Mine is going to around 280 pages without References and Appendices. Worrying about the big size as well even though it will be within the word limit !

Thanks Ady, it made me feel better now. I was looking one of the thesis (submitted to US Uni) and was surprised to see Analysis just started on page 180 !!

Friends, I have a similar concern. It would be kind of you if you could suggest something on this: I am in Humanities and Social Sciences.

Introduction: 4,000 words; background:6,000 words; Theoretical Framework: 15,000; Relevant literature around the topic:7,500 before starting the Methodology Chapter. Thereafter 5 analysis chapters and one conclusion chapter. At the moment, my worry is my analysis chapter starts at the page number 101. Should I count all the chapters except Introduction as Literature Review? If I leave the Background chapter, then also it comes around 23,000 words of Literature Review !

I asked my supervisors and they did not say any problem with it but I myself feel odd here and bit worried. Swetch

Good luck for your submission determined_daisy. I have not started conclusion chapter and finding quite hard until I finish other chapters. But, now slowly things are building up and I hope I will be able to write conclusion as soon as finish my analysis chapters. Today had been quite fruitful and working till late night. Seems that I can submit chapter 8 by 28th instead of 1st Aug. I will start correcting chapter 7 as soon as I submit this. Swetch

I was waiting for yr update in the thread I created (Writing up slump_accountability Daisy & Swetch, others too welcome) and was bit surprised as there was no response from you. Now, I realised you must have missed checking that thread ! Anyway, I can continue in this thread :) I am very focussed these days and working very hard. My brain works better than before. I wish I had done the same in the last couple of months ! But, not more wasting time now. I am in a MISSION completion ! I have been modifying chapter 8 as per supervisors and feeling good. I will submit this on 1 Aug. The month of August is going to be editing all 5 analysis chapters. September end is to have thesis with conclusion chapter (which I got to write). I hope I will manage to integrate all these by then. How is yr work going?? Swetch

I am doing DA for analysing qualitative data. If someone is expert in DA, it is always better to know about DA at least even you have not applied. PM me yr internal's name, may be I will be able to suggest some literature.

My update: Today went well. I have nothing else in my mind than completing thesis as soon as possible. No more procrastination...I have been a very disciplined PhD student...just read & write until I get tired !! Swetch.

Thanks Determined_daisy for such a positive note. You are right, it is always better that the supervisors be critical now than being failed by an examiner ! I am quite happy for the analysis I have been doing for the last three days. I am much focused than before. I will now concentrate more on making my thesis better than submission time. How is your work going? How many days you have been working on yr thesis? Keep posting yr updates. I think rather than making Lacaniandream's post filled up with our updates, we should start a new accountability thread ! Why don't you outline briefly yr targets for each day you work? Swetch

Hi Determined_daisy, How r u doing? I managed to complete the chapters but did not submit on 18th. The things have completely changed now after the supervision meeting as the last two chapters I submitted had many corrections and it was upsetting to know that I was not on the right path. I have completely lost my confidence now. I am restructuring the chapters (7 & 8) again and plan to work more for at least 2 weeks before submission. Seems my plan to submit first draft thesis on September is going to be a dream, I don't see any hope until December now :( I don't mind to have my planned submission time extended but I am really struggling on producing a weighty analysis chapters. Supervisors are quite happy that I have all first drafts done and they say that I am quite closer to the destination but I felt hurt when they said that they got frustrated with some of my uncritical analysis. This is the first time I got such remarks, may be because of that I have not been able to digest it. Still, I worked quite hard today. I will be working again on the same 7 & 8 chapters for 2 weeks now. Sorry for the long and depressing update but could not help. I hope you are doing well. Keep updating.
