Hi all,
I have started worrying now being in the last quarter of my full time second year. I have not been able to transcribe all the data collected. It will still take two more months at least having huge volume of audio data. From the past 1.5 months, doing the same and I am fade up with transcribing ! I am worried that it will give me less time for write up. Will the one year time be enough for analysis/write up to complete in 3 yrs? Really very very worried. Any tips would be highly appreciated.

ohhh....almost 2 years to PhD but never ever any phone conversations! no text..a machine called telephone does not exist for us...just email. Even when my supervisor cancelled meeting at the last minute, he emailed...which I cannot check over the phone :( and I kept waiting for half an hr in front of his room. Later got back to desk and knew about the cancellation :( :(
Hi Rupika,
Congrats for the offer. I was also in the same condition, waiting for scholarship next year. Luckily, I got the full funding in the second round. In my experience, supervisor would rather support. Since English is our second language, I believe yr supervisor would understand. In fact, for getting scholarship, you may need a recommendation letter from your potential supervisor too. Therefore, making him clear would be better. Good luck !

Hi Sneaks,
Thank u so much for your help. I will download and see how it goes with the FGDs. It seems very efficient as currently I have not been able to slow down the speakers' voice and have to rewind again & again. Yeah, my FGDs are digitally recorded. Therefore should work as you said. Thank u so much once again.

Hi all,
I have been transcribing FGD data and it is taking hrs and hrs, seems it will take months. I can't even type directly as FGD is done in a language other than English and the language is not easy/fast for typing. Anyone doing FGD transcription of audio file? Any idea to make it faster? Needs suggestion pls...
Thanks, Pablo. The interview lasted for 1 hr 15 minutes. The most amazing part was examiners' reaction to the PhD review document which they said to be well structured and well written. They had a very good impression on the document - which I could see in their happy faces. Within the first five minutes they said that I have passed and they do not have doubt for future work but they have some suggestions. Basically, that good news followed with just clarifications on some of their questions and suggestions and as well as my future plans. I found it much better than I thought of.

Hi all,
It seems u all are working very hard and achieving your weekly goals. This week was just okay for me. I could do 75% of what I planned but it seems that one more week of time is needed to complete my last targets. As I have 3 workshops to attend in Uni this week, it is likely that my writing part will automatically slow down. Anyways, I am hoping for the best to at least complete my last week's targets.
Good luck to you all.

Hi Florence,
It seems most of us are having the same problem. I too had very painful backache last year due to wooden chair I used. I then replaced it with IKEA office chair (around £100) and finding it very comfortable. Besides the chair, the one mistake we all do is that we are likely to sit longer in the same posture. I have started to use timer (http://www.online-stopwatch.com/) so that I can walk at least every half an hour or have a break of 5 mins. I think combination of chair & break would reduce our backache developed with PhD!!
