How long does it take to write a PhD dissertation?
A

Thank you for the honest answer.
However I truly doubt that you can do your PhD dissertation for 3 minutes, regardless of the discipline. The thing is that in my country if you want to pursue a PhD in management or marketing you will have to spend 3-5 years. The program is intentionally structured with various courses (general and major) and research and publishing of course. Thus you have to pass all required courses (mandatory and elective) publish few papers and than you will be fully eligible to start working on your dissertation. So compared to European policy of conducting doctoral studies, you only have to submit a RP and if you proposal is accepted you can immediately start with research. When I say Europe in my case I'm referring to Switzerland where I want to apply for grant. For instance a I have a friend of mine who did his PhD in London (UK) and he only worked on his dissertation and neither courses nor exams were involved whatsoever. The same concept is also applicable to Swiss Universities. Can somebody explain why is this so having in mind that PhD usually involves courses?
Further, the reason why this concerns me because I can only apply for a grant scholarship for a research fellowship and this grant is however limited (9 months) after that you will have to finance your self. Overall, I'm not sure whether should I apply because if I'm constantly under pressure due to a shortage of time I'm afraid that my research will not be relevant. If someone have/had the same situation your comments are welcome.

How long does it take to write a PhD dissertation?
A

Hello everyone,

I'm nearly finished with master studies (M.Sc.) and I would like to continue with my education and do a PhD. Hence, I would like to apply for a scholarship and pursue my PhD in Europe. However, the duration of the fellowships is up to 9 months. In that context, I'm not sure whether how long does it take to complete the entire PhD dissertation process. For instance, I've wrote my MBA thesis within a period of 4 months, considering the fact that my MBA studies were on English which is btw not my first language. I'm aware that its impossible to determine the exact time frame required due to a variety of factors such as complexity of the research, collaboration with your mentor etc.
Can somebody (how is currently in the process of writing the dissertation or have already completed his research) give me a rough estimate regarding how much time is needed to complete you dissertation.

Thesis methodology help
A

Hi,

I'm currently doing a research for my master thesis (MSc) and I have a problem with selecting the appropriate methodology. My research is associated with the field of Strategic Marketing and I would like to use a literature review based methodology due to the fact that I had a bad experience with empirical studies. Can somebody who have done any research that is solely based on theory help me or advice how should I structure my methodology.

Thank you,

Research proposal HELP
A

Hi,

I'm nearly done with my master studies in Marketing and I already have a research topic in mind. However, I'm not quite sure whether my research is too general or not and thus I'm afraid that my proposal will be rejected.
Hence I would like to conduct a qualitative study through which I can examine the role that external environmental factors have on companies overall marketing strategy. Can somebody (preferably those who have already done any research regarding marketing strategy) advice me on this issue, and do you think that this topic is too broad?

I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere, please help me!

Thank you in advance

MSc after MBA
A

======= Date Modified 28 Aug 2011 09:44:12 =======
Hi,

Could somebody please advice me, I'm in dilemma!
Recently I've finished with my MBA studies within the field of Marketing Management (Magna cum laude). Now I would like to pursue and do MSc, but exclusively in the field of Marketing. The duration of this program is approximately one year. After successful completion of this program I'll get the title MSc in Marketing. The problem is that in our country a lot of universities have not yet received an accreditation for 3 three year doctoral studies, and this process may take a while, maybe year or two max.
Hence, do you think it will be a waste of time to pursue another master degree (MSc) or perhaps I should wait for the accreditation and do a PhD straight? I'm 25 though.

Thank you

conference paper and research paper
A

Hi everybody,

Currently I'm working on a conference paper and I'm little confused which framework should I follow. I'm familiar with the general content of of writing a research paper:
1) Abstract
2) Literature Review
3) Methodology
4) Analysis
5) Conclusion

I've already covered point one and two, however, my concern is should I apply these guidelines in my conference paper or not? Can somebody please tell me the difference between conference paper and research paper cause I'm running out of time... somebody who has been involved previously in preparing conference papers and whether this kind of paper entails more general approach and is there a specific framework for preparing a conference papers?

Thank you in advance

Edi

MBA and PhD?

======= Date Modified 10 Feb 2011 19:46:25 =======
Hi everybody,

My name is Edi. I have a couple of questions regarding PhD studies.
Currently, I'm an MBA student, Marketing Management major, with a GPA over 3.7. I have passed all the exams and I'm nearly finished with my thesis. After a couple of discussion with colleagues and friends I found out that one cannot apply for PhD with an MBA degree. Is this true? Because I had a friend who also done an MBA but anyway she got accepted into a PhD program. Therefore I'm little confused...Can somebody please explain me how these things work, because I would like to apply for a PhD and I already have a research proposal in mind, so your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Regards,
Edi
