The thing is I wont have a full draft completed by registration this year hence the full 6k. After that then I can pay the submission rate at a much cheaper rate. However, I aim to be finished next year!! tough work either way - lets hope funding comes through...
Sorry - don't have access to the journal! good luck with getting the paper though :)
Nothing ever is consistent in the literature the safest thing to do is ask someone if you get confused. The more you read philosophy the more complicated it gets.... so it may be best to ask a supervisor for some help rather than spending a lot of time reading the lit and getting more confused!!
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions.. if needs be I will consider taking a year off to work my ass of to pay my way in the final year! Fingers crossed that this situation will be resolved soon :P
I was teaching for the last three years and thats where the funding came from.. but for some reason this does not seem to be the case this year! :(
I recently published a paper and I put my two supervisors as co-authors because they did provide feedback and helped me with the process. However, if you did the work completely on your own that is a different situation..
Hi Robkarki,
I too was in your position and to be honest didnt like the philosophy behind doing a PhD (even though I should!) I was told that I am a critical realist but I personally believe I am pragmatist.. I will do the work that needs to be done regardless of my philosophical stance. for example, if I need to be interpretive I will be.. alternatively, I could be a post positivist is the work i am focusing on can only be done that way!!:p
My PhD is a taught programme so its a four year full time programme and unfortunately the registration fee is large. Tough situation to be in.. I have a few weeks to consider what I am going to do. Suppose the best thing to do is to put the head down and get as much done until this year is up! after that who knows................
Thanks for your reply. i looked for external funding but was unsuccessful with my application. I would be 3/4 of the way there. data will be collected and analysed by jan the latest (that was the aim!!). contacts have already bn arranged! had until sept 2012 then to complete the thesis and go through drafts before final submission and then the viva. I am a hard worker and know I would get it done but not sure what I should do now.
Mog,
It all depends on the field you are in. If your first paper was a research in progress paper there could be a possibility of submitting it to the same journal to show your findings. Alternatively, if you could get it into another journal that would be great... but it depends on the journals ranking. if you got into a well established journal initially then maybe try it again.. alternatively, you could aim for a higher journal in terms of its ranking position. any feedback you get from the reviews could help with future journal submission! all the best :)
Was informed that funding for my final year of the PhD is gone. I had it for the last 3 years and without notice I was informed recently it wouldnt be there next year. I cannot afford the 6k or so registration, never mind living expenses.. Should I stay and put myself into 20K of debt to complete it or take a masters and forget about it! Advise is really needed as I need to register for the final year come sept
thanks
