I don't agree with splitting the time but think each person should be given a separate allowance. When I had my kids it would have been great if my husband could have had more time off but not as a shared option. Having a baby can take a huge medical toll on a woman's body which isn't always appreciated. I was really ill when I had both my children - I will spare you all the details! I needed all of my maternity leave to recover - if my husband had been banking on having his 'share' it would have been really disappointing. So from the perspective of equality in the job place and bonding time - both of which are important - give dad's more time but don't make it a split. I can see this causing all sorts of problems for employers too as the admin will be a nightmare.

So just had a chat with indoctorate on a way forward - all those who want to see tweets search under #phdwiki
We concluded that we cannot predict how this may evolve so let's start it off and see what happens - as or if it takes off we can always migrate to a new tool?
So I will start off a wiki page and indoctorate will start off delicious tagging.
To start with we will try and foster links back to this forum and thread. We may want to rate and discuss resources a bit more - a wiki can be a bit limiting and delete a range of views.
Let's start it off and see what happens but people can either add their links to the new resources once they are up (whichever) or here and for a bit we will try and keep them linked and see what happens?
Indoctorate will also try and publisize with his blog and it would be good it others could do the same.
Hope that all makes sense but as ever feel free to add further thoughts and comments, Thanks to all those who got this idea started great to have people like Chuff and LB having brainwaves!
As a starting point for research methods I found Alison Pickard's Research methods book really helpful. It is from an information science perspective but it is helpful from a research method's perspective as it takes you through different approaches chapter by chapter.
There is a lot of literature on corporate and information governance - what is your angle? It's really impressive you have an idea for a model.

All of us who have had a baby know how tiring pregnancy can be but then how even more tiring it is when the baby comes. However we also all know that the most important thing is your's and your babies health. My advice would be get the extension and try to keep plodding on but don't see it as a black and white situation. If you get it all done before the baby comes fantastic - if not you will get it done in due course. Try not to stress about it and as already suggested just do small chunks. You have done so well to get minor corrections many of us I am sure are full of admiration at this achievement- good luck you will get there in the end.

That's a really great offer Indoctorate and may be the best course of action. My gut feeling is that in an ideal world we want something that does not rely on one of us to post the comments but can allow anyone to add the links. A blog normally only enables one person to post and then others just add comments.
Clarabelle is right that we don't want to set up a site that suddenly vanishes - although delicious is quite popular so presumably it will get bought? - another tagging service did disappear overnight and that can happen even if you pay. We are not really in a position as a group to pay for a service?
We could email the people that run this site, e.g. Amy and ask if they can set us up a resource tab here? I can ask Amy and then we can review our options? The delicious benefit that Chuff talked about does potentially make a more dynamic resource. Indoctorate's offer is really generous too. It would be nice to have something that could develop sub-threads with links to related aspects of a doctorate?
