Scared to do a PhD???!!!
E

Hi Kate,

Well done on getting accepted, especially fully-funded, that is great! I am in my third year of a part time PhD and I love it. I don't really find it stressful at all, there are moments when I don't know what I am doing or have to do something that perhaps I wouldn't like to do - like giving a conference paper - but for the most part it is really enjoyable. All my peers seem to be enjoying too, some of my friends have had periods when they are not so positive but all of them have bounced back within a reasonably short time. It is hard work but I am doing it part-time which suits me entirely.

I hope your decision won't be too difficult to make and that once it is made you are able to commit to that decision and enjoy whatever you decide to do.

How did it go? I hope you had a good time and that you have made some headway with your supervisor situation.

Hi, I just read your post and I want to encourage you to go ahead with the conference - I am sure you have worked hard preparing for it and any feedback you get from the conference can only be a good thing.

I agree with everyone that his supervision sounds rubbish but maybe you can deal with that after you have been to the conference? You don't want to say something in the heat of the moment and then spend the next few days, while at the conference, worrying about what you said. That's just what I would do.

I really hope it goes well, perhaps you can let us know how it goes?

How are you feeling today Agniparbon?

Hi agniparbon, I am really sorry you are feeling so bad at the moment, can I suggest that you seek medical help? I don't know anything about you other than what you have written above but as you are feeling under so much pressure maybe it is worth speaking to your supervisor also and telling him about your situation. Maybe he can give you extra time or just provide you with support. It's good that you felt able to post a message on the wall but I think it would be really great if you could speak to someone in person, if not a doctor or supervisor then a friend perhaps? In my university there is a counselling center, maybe there is one in your institution too. I am sorry I can't be more help than that but I will be praying for you today.

Disabled Students Allowance

I hope this is not too off-topic but I was looking for any other PhD students who have health problems and this page seemed like a good place to start. I guess I am interested in how other people are managing their health and a PhD?
