Sounds reasonable. Yes, mentioned in the methodology too. Thanks!

Hypothesis and Objectives- where to mention again?
L

I have mentioned my hypothesis and objectives in the introduction. I have two chapters addressing the objectives (which should help test the hypothesis). I also mentioned the hypothesis and the objectives in the conclusion under 'Conclusions about Research Objectives and Hypothesis'. In this subsection, I devoted like three pages to summarizes the accomplished objectives and showing that therefore the hypothesis is valid. Now I'm wondering if I need to clearly spell them out at the end of the two analyitical chapters too? Should I list the objectives one by one at the end and say that the analysis accomplished them? Or is it enough to do so in the conclusions, since the whole analysis is meant to address the objectives?

PhDs should come with a health warning!!!
L

Totally agree. Four years back I was someone (something) else: happy, young and healthy. I look at least fifteen years older, have so many health problems, had to had an organ removed, being transfered from one doctor to another, each finding 'new' issues in each illness I have. Had I known it would cost me my health- and not only time, money and energy - I wouldn't have gone for it!

empty spaces on thesis?
L

Thank you both.
Well, I first used Lindalou's style and had the tables running on the top of the pages with text completing the rest of the pages regardless to the position of the text referring to the table, but the whole thing became very difficult to follow up and very inconvenient. I now moved the tables just after they are mentioned and just before the table description. This created the spaces I have mentioned. So according to Catalinbold it is fine. The only thing is that at a point, I have several small tables with short descriptions following; and sometimes two tables happen to be on the same page.

empty spaces on thesis?
L

Hi,

If i have a direct quotation starting three lines of which is at the bottom of a page then it continues on another page, will that be right? Or should a direct quote be in one chunk on one page? (I'm using Harvard style if it matters.)

Also, what about tables? I keep reading a table should be whole on the same, page. Now this makes sense but what about the empty space I end up with when I push a table down by 'Enter' to keep it fully on one page? Is this space permitted?
Thanks!
:-)

format errors in thesis- what will happen?
L

Quote From lania:

Phew! I was thinking: I have to defend my thesis and above it I have formatting issues! They might think I submitted too early and be taken less seriously!

That's good to hear. Aaaah... One burden off! Now I will focus on the thesis itself in preperation for the viva! Thank you again.

LOL!!! Souls have added "I love you guys!" at the end of my thesis! ?but on the whole, it sounds that the examiners aren't as picky about format as I thought. Thanks!

I have submitted my thesis although I knew about some formatting errors, simply because my scholarship will end up soon. I had spent much time trying to correct them but several were still not ok, to be precise, a few sentences broken and jumping to a new line) and a few tables being consequently pushed down making only the heading or the heading and one other line show at the bottom of the page and the rest moved to the following page. I am now wondering how seriously this will be taken? Is is a sign of irresponsibility or carelessness? Or is it one of 'minor corrections' to be pointed out?:-(
