Good luck PamW! Sounds like a great idea, the one goal thread has really helped me with my work!
Agree with Ian, I really hope Heidi hasn't been frightened off by LarryDavid. Mods, if you look through LarryDavid's posts he has a history of this sort of thing.
Heidi, please post and let us know how you get on. One small person like LarryDavid shouldn't put you off, when there are so many other members here who will offer you support.
Morning all,
Well you've started bright and early Batfink so that's a good sign! Hope your work goes ok today and you do manage to get outside for a bit. I think it's just as important to get out and have a break away from the desk, so don't sit there all day or you'll go barmy!
I'm still umming and aahing about which chapter to get started on now, I think it's probably best to start with the worst one! But the problem I have there is that I have no clue where to start with it! So this morning is going to be mainly reading, cutting and pasting into a new format! Wish me luck :$
Have a good day everyone!
Hurray, that's one more chapter amended, thank goodness! I shall be putting that to one side now for a few days, although I now have the choice of two chapters, both of which I know aren't very good to work on, eek!
Hope you're all having a good and productive day (up)
Hmmm, I had a little look at my philosophical bible (Crotty, The Foundations of Social Research) and I think what you've said is ok. It's about understanding what sense people make of the world which both interpretivism and relativism are both concerned with. BUT I would run it past your supervisors just to make sure! They'll know if it's acceptable to say this, I think it is, but then I'm quite a pragmatist really (sssh! don't tell anyone ;-) )
Hi Lania,
I'll tell you what I have done - mine are listed in my methodology chapter, and I will re-state them in the conclusion chapter to ascertain whether I have answered them or not. I think what you have done so far is fine - you don't need to mention them again in the analysis as you've talked about them in the conclusion. I would suggest this is probably one you need to take up with your supervisors if you can as well? Just to check that you've met their expectations?
Ooh Batfink, that does sound busy - good luck, one thing at a time! You'll get there!
The amendments are going ok thanks Espresso, I'm rather like Batfink in that I am preparing my chapters to send a "thesis so far" to my supervisors at the end of the month. Very very scary! Like you, I try not to think about what comes next as I get really nervous and worried about it - I'm going to be a mess when it comes to viva! If I ever get there! Positive thinking!
Agree with Jenstallon, it's not worth the stress and the hassle. I think it might be worth going to see your doctor or a university counsellor first though, just to see if there is anything they can do for you.
Hi everyone,
Hope you had a good day yesterday Espresso, and the packing went well Button! I'm just carrying on today like yesterday!
Have a good day everyone :-)
Hi,
Congratulations on getting a job, that's brilliant (up) I think that as you have a full draft you should be fine - I wouldn't worry about it too much. The job market is tough so any job is pretty good at the moment! I managed to work a 20 hour week as well as complete my PhD work in my first year - if anything, it made me use the time I had for my PhD more effectively as I knew I only had limited time for it. I made sure I fully planned each week and timetabled activities to manage my time.
As for the funding, I don't know... I don't know what I would do in your situation, but will it not cause problems with Mr Taxman?
Agree with Ian et al - LarryDavid is a controversialist, see his previous posts! There are always going to be people out there like that, you just have to take it with a pinch of salt.
Good luck with hand in today, I can't believe that I myself will ever get there! Have a great time celebrating! (up)
Hi Dotdot,
You're doing the right thing by meeting with one of your supervisors, perhaps this meeting will really make or break the decision for you. And just because you quit this PhD, doesn't mean you can't ever re-apply and do one in the future. It might be good to go back to work to figure out if this is really what you want. Do come back and let us know how you get on - how lucky that you have a job to go to!
Hi everyone,
Hope you all had a great weekend, we had some sunshine here which was nice for a change! Hope you are all getting on well with your work. Today I am mostly getting on with amending my chapter, I can't believe how quickly time is flashing past! I think time definitely speeds up the closer you get to the end of your three years!
Have a good day everyone (up)
Thank you Button :-)
Oh dear about the raspberries though! I went to the supermarket and bought some fancy chocolate to cheer myself up, I'm having to restrain myself from eating it all because it will make me feel ill (it's one of those flavoured, labelled high cocoa chocolate brands). Well done on achieving your goal!
Thank you, I don't know what I'd do without this forum! It's so nice to be able to talk to other PhDers :-) (gift)
