Thank you Satchi for your comment,
Well I did work in the field for few months and I already know the project very well. I wanted to know what question they may ask related to the field (I may not cover in the project).

Hi Everyone,

I really impressed by your motivation. I hop I become a PhD student soon, I have any interview on Monday, I've been reading random staff today, I didn't read intensively, fingers cross for Monday.

PhD Interview (Please help if you know)
R

Hi Everyone,
I have a PhD interview in the field of metamaterials and plasmonics field. I have few questions:
How much should I know about the field?
What kind of questions they may ask related to the field?
What is the most fundamental and basic concept that they expected me to know about the field?
Thank you for your help in advance,

Please Help me to decide!!

Thank you hazyjane

that's what I was considering so far and its quite hard to make a decision,

thank you Mackem_Beefy and dunni73

Well, yes I did all of these things I even talked to the potential supervisors in the both institutions and they are happy to take me as their PhD student. Even more I read few current and past papers of the targeted supervisor.

The problem is that when I talk to the current PhD students they do not express it very well in either research groups. I think in this situation I need to go by the name of the institution which i don't like this type of decision making!!

Dear Everyone,

I did a Msc in Nanotechnology and I'm currently I'm doing Photonic DTC program which is running between UCL and Cambridge. This program is lead to a PhD degree.

Research Groups to choice from:

UCL - Photonics Group
UCL - Optical Networks Group
UCL - Communications and Information Systems Group
UCL - Electronic Materials and Devices
London Centre for Nanotechnology
UCL - Sensors Systems and Circuits
UCL - Centre for Medical Image Computing
UCL - Atomic, Molecular, Optical and Positron Physics
UCL - Biomedical Optics Research Laboratory
UCL - Centre for Advanced Instrumentation Systems

Cambridge - Centre for Photonic Systems
Cambridge - Photonics Sensors Group
Cambridge - Institute of Biotechnology
Cambridge - Electronic Devices & Materials Group
Cambridge - Computer Architecture Group
Cambridge - Centre for Industrial Photonics
Cambridge - Geotechnical Group, Engineering
Cambridge - Wide bandgap semiconductors, Materials Science
Cambridge - Digital technology group, Computer Laboratory
Cambridge - Systems Research Group, Computer Laboratory

I would like to do my PhD in Nanotechnology field. I've just don't know which intuition should l aim for.

UCL - Electronic Materials and Devices
London Centre for Nanotechnology
Cambridge - Electronic Devices & Materials Group

Currently I'm working in Centre of Molecular Materials for Photonics and Electronics (CMMPE). please recommend me a supervisor if you know any.

Thank you for your help,

Hi
I've been accepted into Photonics DTC program. Can anyone tell me about this program please such as how much they pay, who will issue my last degree or is there any chance to transfer to Cambridge or anything like that,

Regards,

Raham,

That’s why they interview me; I’ve been accepted for the course they just interview me for studentship, by the way can you give me some more information about this interview, or any technical questions they might ask.

Wow, Cobweb thank you for your help,

Finding the right research project
R

Hi

Can anyone tell me how i can find the right research project in Electronic Field? Not what website to visit or something, i mean in what field is quite good e.g speech processing, mobile communications, image processing or computer vision, Nanotechnology or ...

I'm looking for an area which is not to crowded or something new which no one has any idea about the filed, I'm looking for an area which not many papers available so in that cause there is a hope to find new things,

I'll be grateful if you give me some ideas or tell me how to find that kind of filed,

Thank you,

Please Help me to decide!!

well, I'll do a PhD. if you look at the courses that i have offer on they all to do with Communications, so most likely to go for Communication field for my PhD. but some people say that PhD Communication field is now crowded try to go for something new, that's why i thought Southampton University is better than others and also if you look at the 2009 ranking of the universities in the electronic field Southampton University is second. but still not sure yet,

Please Help me to decide!!

I have the following offers to do my MSc which one would you recommend it?

Kings College: Mobile and Personal Communication,
Southampton: Nanoelectronics
University of Surrey: Mobile and Satellite Communication,
University of Bristol: Wireless Communication Networks and Signal Processing,
City University: Telecommunications and Networks,
Bath University: wireless Systems and also Digital Communications

Ideally I'm planning to go for Southampton University, but is it a right decision?
