You should firstly try scholarships offered by your own country. There is one UK-India Education Trust and one Felix Scholarship (tenable only at Oxford, SOAS and Manchester Uni).
Thanks, verdy. Glad for you.Congrad on getting the additional scholarship.
I think Eman meant to look for unis which he/she can undertake the proposed research topic. Institute of Education (IOE)University of London would be a good place to start. Check out their web www.ioe.ac.uk. good luck
hi Alisa, if you'd like to do it part-time whilst working full time, then it shouldn't be a problem. But if you want to do it full-time, then you'll have to reapply for the FLR(S)to switch to student visa. The HSMP visa is equivalent to a two-year work permit which allows you to work, but not to full-time study. You must apply for switch before your programme starts. Hope this helps.
Verdy, what is your funding body? Did you put forward a request to renew it? What if the funding org has said "it is tenable for three years", if I wouldn't finish it on time, could I ask them to stump up more?
For most of the routine questions, I've answered and exemplified them in the personal statement with the application, if I get asked again, do I reiterate them and give the same eg.?
I've created a new thread re my above reply, sorry about the intrusion.
I am shortlisted for one pre-funded project and will take the interview early next week. Any inputs re what sort of questions will be asked? I don't think they'll ask me academic-oriented things as this is a well set-up topic and doesn't require too much prior knowledge of the field. So will questions I encountered in job interviews resurface, i.e. why do you want the post, what you can offer, what are your strengths and weaknesses, describe a situation when(blah, blah, blah).... and other wacky questions as well.
Thanks, matthew. This makes me feel a lot more at ease. I am shortlisted for one project and will take the interview early next week. Any inputs re what sort of questions will be asked? I don't think they'll ask me academic-oriented things as this is a well set-up topic and doesn't require too much prior knowledge of the field. So questions I encountered in job interviews will resurface???
One parenthetical digression: how many interviews do you expect for a pre-funded phd project? As I reckon it is pretty much like a job application which would normally entail two rounds of interview. Or does that depend on the super and project?
I mean for this particular DHPA award, the closing date for the receipt of unpaired core awards and additional awards in 2007 has now passed.
This years funding has closed, it is too early to apply for next year's though! Which year's PhD are you applying for?
One thing you must try is NERC Natural Environment Research Council. Your research topis is absorbing!
What is the rationale behind your application to Germany uni in the first place? You should have weighed against each other before application. If it was simply because you love the country, then money and working conditions shouldn't put you off. Again if you really love the country, you should have known conditions there and should not flounder whether you can live with the pittance in the here and now.
PinkNeuron, your uni regulation is weird. My uni stipulates that all research students are required to attend the methodological training course, funding proposal sessions and one or two taught master's course at discretion. Don't you need to attend any of these in your first yr? I think they are a must.
