Looking for a PhD post abroad
V

Dear forum,

I am a current research student (MRes) specializing in sport psychology. I aim to apply for a PhD at my current institution (of which I am assured a place) however I would like to, if possible, broaden my horizons and so I have also applied to others across the UK. Further, I wish to explore the possibility of studying abroad (preferable N. America). However, I don't really know where to start with this. Do I email prospective tutors directly? Is there some sort of preliminary process I need to go through before I should even begin to email? Are prospective institutions generally open to international students?

Any advice of how to approach this from those with experience in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Searching for PhD and research opportunities

I am 21 and currently enrolled on an MRes in applied sport psychology which is funded by my institution and am teaching first year undergraduates statistics and psychology six hours a week to live on. After I complete my research I expect that I will continue on to a MPhil/PhD at my current institution. However, I am curious as to how I go about searching for opportunities elsewhere with regard to research and PhD's alongside a teaching role. Is it simply a case of getting in touch with the relevant tutors or is there a place I can search through postings, relevant to what I am looking for, on a site similar to this one? (I am especially interested in looking overseas, specifically North America)

Further, if anyone could offer any useful information on what you feel I am better off doing after my MRes this would be appreciated (Re: moving on or staying put)?

Thanks,

Voy.
