is there a strange ratio between thesis length and nail length?
4

the longer my thesis gets, the shorter my nails are... My beautiful long nails are history. This week they are at their shortest. Hmmm, spooky. I wonder if it's my typing.

Anything else weird happens to others?

introducing the chapter themes in the intro?

I was thinking exactly the same thing about writing the thesis structure, but in the end decided to leave it fairly standard and linear. This is because I found this boring/typical style very useful when looking for info on other people's thesis recently. I think rather than making it interesting, it is important to make it easy for examiners to find what they are looking for.

By the way I can't help thinking Eska and I should go to "a" party in these outfits ;-)

Ah yes, I remember that list :-)

Can't find the one I mean tho. It is from the mooncup & belford discussion days. Maybe it was Suffield University.

lol. Probably not you, but the guy working at the Krispy Kreme in Winnipeg will definitely get a PhD within the next few months.

by the way, what was the other one called? I always confused that one with Cranfield so I think it sounded a bit like that.

hey PhDJane. First of all congratulations with the paper.

I think it would be useful to have some form of a title. If you don't want to use the word 'student', you can say something like 'academic researcher', or mention your area (i.e researcher in politics etc). It says PhD researcher on my card, and it is printed on the standard university card (University's print office only amends the contact details and title on the template). Most people use 'PhD candidate'.

Thank you BilboBaggins. I live far far away from uni. It looks like I'll have to print the work with a private company here in London before I travel to my uni on the day of submission. My uni's print shop is cheap but it would be too risky to email them the whole thing and hope that everything will be ok on the submission day (I'll be able to travel only once due to lack of time and finances).

But it's good to know that, so thanks for your answer. I'll do some calculations and work out the costs...

Good luck Chrisrolinski. I am submitting on 30th of this month too. Following your method, I made a list of things to do, and looks like I have at least 3 times more work to do. Including a re-write of a brand new chapter (latest addition).

I don't mean to take over your thread, but where are you going to print yours? Are you putting all colour-illustrations altogether in a different section? Mine is spread around the text, but I'm thinking maybe it will be too costly as it will force full colour printout of the whole thesis.

Do you know if it would be allowed to change the layout of the thesis after viva? I mean print only the illustrations section separately in colour first, but lay it out as I initially intended after the viva, after all the corrections done.

Passed with minor changes

Thank you so much for good words. I'll post here if I can finish the remaining 12,000 by Sunday night, hoping it might be useful to others. I remember feeling very encouraged with other people's threads re writing goals before.

I wish you all good luck with your work. (up)
