Pm an email address if you still require the paper :-)

Thanks Ian

I do/did the same as you but it's amazing the variations when confronted by different authors.

Is your salary commensurate with your degree?

No! At the moment the summer job I have pays less per hour less than my son is getting packing shelves for Tesco:-(

Can anybody pleeeeease clarify, when referencing (Harvard style) should page ranges in the bibliography be separated with a hyphen, an en dash or an em dash?

I am currently re-formatting a 98-page bibliography from 40 different papers and feel I am going slowly mad :-(

Their response was not to get too hung up on what Dunleavy has proposed.

Mine was ~18,000 which really was too long but I got away with it - just! If I had to do it again I would drop one theme entirely which would have allowed me develop the remaining two more thoroughly.

Have to say that I would agree with your supvs in not getting too hung up on a particular structure - better to go with what works for your particular thesis. Mine had nine chapters, pretty trad format: Intro / Lit review / Meth / four [short] thematic findings chapters / analysis-discussion / conclusion. With the benefit of hindsight I would probably do it a bit differently but then hindsight is a great thing. My advice is to work with your supvs and do what works best for your study.

it's amazing just how much you can do in the last few weeks - nearly there, guys(up)

Journal name abbreviations?
A

Many thanks both of you, really helpful. Smoobles, I think you just earned yourself a 3rd star! HazyJane, looks like I have voted for you in the past.

There are a few hundred entries altogether, across roughly 40 bibliographies - not all of them are abbreviated but many are. Some are stretching back donkey's years so some journals may not even exist any more. I may take you up on your offer HazyJane and post a few teasers here if I get stuck!

Journal name abbreviations?
A

I am currently doing a small editing job for my department and was wondering if there is a list of the most common journal name abbreviations. I am in the social sciences where it is not common to abbreviate names but it seems to be more the norm in the sciences. While I can guess some of the full titles, some mean nothing to me at all!

Any help most appreciated :-)

Referencing images

Can't help much I'm afraid Pam except to say that as far as I know Corinne also included a lot of images - it might be worth doing a search on her user name to see if you come up with anything good.

In relation to your first query, I would say that if you have so many I would think they might be better in a block together at a particular point stage in your thesis

Preparing thesis for submission

you sound all but good to go - six weeks is plenty of time, probably too much tbh. Assuming it's checking rather than ruthless editing, a fortnight would probably do it. If you're trying to shorten your chapters as the others suggest give yourself more time. Plus never forget that big picture as it is really important.
