Oh dear I'm a jotter and highlighter..but only my books not the librarys.
My cat did once pee on a library book on Freud and being a poor student I did dry it out and drop it in the return bin...so anyone getting a book from Durham library on Freud if it smells a bit iffy its my cat...sorry!!!
Ok silly question but which is the best newspaper to read to keep up with current affairs. I currently get the independant but am finding my supervisors keep quoting from the guardian?
Theres no way I am bright enough to manage the times though!!!
What do you all read to keep yourselves informed?
Ok I'm a grown women so this sounds really sad but I am off to Edinburgh at the weekend for my first conference. Its nothing scary really organised by ESRC and is designed to help us survive and thrive as well as a networking opportunity but I am so out of my depth. I have nothing to wear and its the first time I have left my twins for so long. I'm so used to being a mum or a dreggy student I'm not sure how to act!
Any tips on appearing as if I know what I am doing?
Not my field but I am at Notitngham Uni!! The security guards are right jumped up so and so's but apart form that its ok...lots of eatery's, don't rate the library much though...not too big an issue though with inter library loans and e-books and journals.
With you on this one! I dread them and nearly cancelled mine today but went in and it wasnt too bad. But yes I do feel as though they are trying to catch me out.
After weeks of moaning that they have interfered too much today they sort of said Now its your PhD go away and formulate specific reserach questions....I nearly wept at the responsibility!!!! If I manage to make a coherant point I always feel so proud of myself!!!

Well Jean Luc sex on legs clearly, Whoopi Goldburgs character Gynan is great and the concept of Q is so titilating..never knowing where he is going to pop up...or as whom or what!!!
Data's transparency and honesty is soooo appealing and so childlike. Brilliant bunch of charecters!!!

I concur yet again....SW def. does not feature in my Top flicks!!!
Do admit to liking Star Trek generations but only because of its post modernist undertones...and partick stewarts sexy butt!
Thank God someone else didnt like the book!! Usually find myself ostricised (sp?) when I admit they were boring, long and ulimately a little pointless...someone who knows my pain *sigh*
Made myself read the books (I bowed to the 'you either have or you havnt'brigade) found them immensly boring and have not watched the films...I can think of better ways of wasting several hours of my life!!!!
Am 5 months in and up until now my sups have set me essays/reviews every month. However I am now working on stuff more to my liking and as upgrade approaches I will ask for nothing to be set. xx

Eventually it is over: the Ring is gone, everyone congratulates him and, for a few days, he can convince himself that his troubles are over. But there is one more obstacle to overcome: months later, back in the Shire, he must confront the external examiner Saruman, an old enemy of Gandalf, who seeks to humiliate and destroy his rival's protege. With the help of his friends and colleagues, Frodo passes through this ordeal, but discovers at the end that victory has no value left for him. While his friends return to settling down and finding jobs and starting families, Frodo remains in limbo; finally, along with Gandalf, Elrond and many others, he joins the brain drain across the Western ocean to the new land beyond.
