Confess your daily food intake and exercise regime

i certainly wouldn't step on the scales more than once a week, when i was younger i used to do it every day and became totally obsessed by it. i wouldn't say it was an eating disorder exactly but it certainly wasn't healthy, as i would starve myself to stay a certain weight. it shouldn't really matter how much you weigh, i never weigh myself now and instead i just go on how well my clothes fit, and if i'm happy with what i see in the mirror!

(yesterday: a cadbury's boost as a mid-morning snack, pizza for lunch, pasta and pesto for dinner - oops! will try and be healthier today and am going to the gym later....)

Smoobles' approach sounds very healthy to me. I would normally weight myself once a week, cos otherwise I had too many daily fluctuations. But maybe it is better just to go on what you see in the mirror.

Quote From scienceishard:

how often do people recommend weighing themselves? I had a friend who did it every day and started to panic if her weight went up by 1lb, but she soon started to notice that she could gain or lose up to 5lbs throughout the day depending on when she weighed herself. She soon got into a habit of buying new scales every month, thinking that they were always broken. So how often do people recommend, every week? every fortnight or every month perhaps? I bought one of those little trampoline things and found that I toned up a lot more, I looked slimmer but seemed to put on slightly more weight (I'm hoping its because muscle weighs more than fat), so I'm making it my aim not necessarily to lose weight but to stay toned.

Wii fit is the best way cos you have a fat little Mii in front of you to motivate and the graph to show you - and if you even lose a little bit the graph goes down so keeps you motivated. on there it says you can gain up to 2 lbs during a day, just make sure you weigh yourself at the same time

T

I think it is a good idea to weigh yourself at the same time of day so as to minimise daily fluctuations in weight. First thing in the morning would probably be best as you body will have sort of 'reset' itself over night.

I had my gym induction yesterday which went well.. was knackered after it!!

I used to weigh myself every day simply because the scales was in the bathroom and I'd just hop up on it before I got into the shower in the morning. It was always at the same time of day but nonetheless I'd be up a pound one day, down 2, then up another 2... it started to drive me insane so now the scales is hidden at the back of a kitchen cupboard!!! I take it out once every 1/2 weeks at the most.

By the way my initial guess of having gained 3/4 lbs was bang on - 3.5 to be exact :-( But I have been all healthy so far this week, exercised every day so far yay!!!

I love this thread 8-) Can I join in? I'm getting married in 12 weeks and I'm currently trying out a no-junk regime, with varying success. I succumbed to a raspberry flapjack yesterday but did have a game of badminton. Does that even itself out? I hope so :$

I reckon that evens itself out nicely wppkie, although I have to say I was really surprised to see just how many calories are in some flapjacks! I bought one the other day and was shocked to see it was 500 calories!!! It was only supposed to be a snack and I bought it from a health food shop. Still at least its not nutritionally empty(up)

W

500 calories? nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! ok that was definitely my last flapjack ever... I shant worry though, I have made a lemon drizzle cake so that will keep me happy (yes, I know what you're all thinking, some diet she is on...:p), I have a rule that if I bake it myself it can't be bad. Please don't tell me there's a million calories in lemon drizzle cake....

S

aww sorry wookie, maybe your flapjack was special and much lower in calories than mine. I like the rule that if you bake it yourself, its ok. In some ways its definitely true because then you can control what ingredients you put in (so you can try and leave out all the nasty stuff). I should do that more often instead of always buying pre made snacks full of rubbish. Lemon drizzle cake sounds lovely but just thinking about cake makes my thighs feel heavy. Cake is my downfall, I just can't say no:-(

L

congratulations on getting married Wookie!! good luck with the diet, and happy you like the thread concept!!

i concur, its best to weigh yourself once a week at the same time, preferably first thing in the morning before you have eaten anything.

although i like to weigh myself every morning and write it down in a weight diary. but yah pounds can go up and down.

although when you start exercising, muscle weighs more then fat, so like its already been said, clothes and how you look are better to go by. .

my rebounder arrived today!!!! i have assembled it, it's so cool and so much fun!! :) i've been reading about all the benefits, and really happy i bought it. its blown my budget for the month, but its worth it :)

i had another bad diet day today, it started out well, with 2 bananas and pepermint tea, then all of a sudden, i had crackers and peanut butter and some with cheddar cheese and some crisps too!

oh and i also had 4 oreo cookies, but now that i've eaten them, its out of my system, and i no longer crave for it anymore.

just had some fruit now. and i will have a low fat dinner at 7.30, of lentil soup and veg. tommorow i will definately not have anything fattening!!

P

I started off well today, wholemeal toast with marmite, then a roll with turkey and watercress, spinach and rocket. I have just had my afternoon snack of one weetabix, organic natural yoghurt and blackberries (instead of the bounty bar I really fancied). Then my Dad suggests we have Chinese take-away for tea! It would be rude not to accept his offer. However I am going to have king prawns and baby sweetcorn with boiled rice which I hope is fairly healthy. I do like a take away and when I socialise with friends we usually go for a (cheap) meal, which usually means pub food ie chips and burgers or pizzas. Maybe it would be helpful if people have any tips on how to enjoy eating out or take away but still trying to keep healthy.
My tip is money-saving as well. Instead of getting take-away pizza, make your own. Buy a base and cover it with veggies, and a little low fat mozzerella.

Free food has no calories. So if someone offers to take you to a meal or provide you a meal, it has no calories. Same as the biscuits and things that universities sometimes offer, they have no calories, so you should eat as much as you want guilt free.

Weightwatchers!!!!! wooooow!!!! This threat is simply great!!! I thought I was the only person who has put on weight!!!but cpouple of weeks ago I and a PhD mate, offered to watch each other's diet!!! Its great we tell each other what we eat and always take the stairs in the Uni...Plus I have also joined thebasket ball team so I hope I will lose some weight....I have cut down on sugary food... which is my biggest weakness...Oh!! no I see a biiiig choclate cake on my table....Chocolate cake here I come!!! sorry everyone...;-)

L

Pamw, i woudnt say no to chinese takeaway either! so go for it. i think when it comes to eating out and takeaway, as long as its not everyday, once in a while treat is OK, like once a week. if its more than once a week, then opting for healthier choices, like a salad, instead of chips, with a piece of meat would be good idea down at the pub.
your day food was healthy, well done.

lol Olivia, i like the way you think!

Pari, LOL!! you're so funny about the chocolate cake. cracked me up :-) i think taking the stairs is a great idea, and joining the basketball team, way hey great stuff!

I just had a healthy dinner. of salad, vegetables, and chicken. and i am going to have 2 dates and 8 almonds for dessert.

i watched this programme on bbc 3, about this girl who used to binge eat on 5-6 chocolates everyday, and they told her if she continued that way she would get adult onset diabetes, that really scared me, not that i eat chocolate everyday but just generally how your diet can cause diabetes. and once you've got it, thats it , its incurable, and can lead to blindless ! scary stuff indeed. so i am really going to watch my diet and exercise everyday. i love my bouncy bouncy trampoline :-)

I've not done too well this week; although I don't generally eat takaways I've been lured by the vending machines into buying KitKats several times. It's this cold weather! Especially when you realise you'll be staying late and your'e hungry and the only option is the vending machine, and they don't vend salads.
