That's brilliant news Shani, well done

Full time but attending Part time?
J

Sorry if I opened the box for you then! Having fees for the first year is a start at least, I hope you manage to sort something else out. Judging from your past experience I reckon you'll be fine
I've been offered a place to start next month but haven't got enough to pay the fees - have applied to a few places so I'm keeping my fingers crossed but if I don't manage to get anything I'm not sure what I'll do

Full time but attending Part time?
J

I was told that the department I'll be joining doesn't have much in the way of facilities for research students (although they're trying to change that) so full or part time I'd be expected to do most of my work from home.
How's the search for funding going PinkNeuron?

after two rejections......

Well done, must be a big relief

Part Time PhD?

yeah, six years, I'm in it for the long haul!

Part Time PhD?
J

Hi Petal,
I've just been accepted at a uni in the North to do a part time PhD - it's Social Sciences so might be a bit different - but I approached a potential supervisor who invited me in to talk about my proposal, I then applied and was interviewed and have been offered a place. The fees are 1600 for the first year and half that for each subsequent year. From the initial research I did I'd say that they are some of the cheapest around.
Good luck

I'm going to be a PhD student!

TOO OLD FOR PhD?
J

Go for it, don't let age put you off. I'm 28 and about to start a part time PhD - should put me at about 33/34 when I finish.

I'm going to be a PhD student!

Hi phd_chick, congratulations!
I'm starting in September too, part time, really excited! What's everybody doing in terms of preparation? Or are you enjoying the last few weeks of freedom/social life?

At the risk of sounding insane
J

Know exactly what you mean dazednconfused, I keep thinking that there must be more out there, and that I could/should be doing more with my life, but have no idea what that 'more' is, how to go about doing it, and whether it really will be an improvement on what's already a pretty good life when all's said and done. Wierd feeling isn't it?

Where is everyone? It's dead quiet ...

I've been taking advantage of the bit of sunshine to test my festival tent

Start my PhD in September
J

Thanks BB. Unfortunately the PhD has absolutely nothing to do with my job, that would've made things easier lol. I work in secondary education though, so no chance of funding from there anyway if that's what you were thinking

Start my PhD in September
J

Thanks for the replies - I'm staying well away from loans of any kind, got into trouble as an undergraduate and I'm not going down that road again! I already work full time, have been offered a place for a part time PhD, so the fees aren't as bad as they could be but don't have much leeway with my wage at the mo. Charities/trusts seems to be the way forward, got a few letters to send out to local places so fingers crossed

Start my PhD in September

Finally got the interview I've been waiting for, and I must have done something right cos I've done it! Got the place I wanted, to start in September, all I have to do now is find the fees....ah, knew there was a catch somewhere...
