The One Goal Thread
M

What a great idea for a thread, thanks Sneaks. Could really do with this at the moment. Life meant I'd to take some time off phd but trying to get back in the swing of things now. Got my one goal of reading through recent journals to catch up done so I'm pleased. I need to read the chosen papers more closely now but I'll save that for tomorrow at the office. Like you my in-office days are usually a complete waste but skimming articles might be ok I hope.

Passed viva - wahoo!
M

Congratulations bilbo, what wonderful news. You've worked so hard and so long and deserve it so thoroughly. Well done, really happy for you!

Oh dear. I hate those. Hope she was pleased!

Thanks KC. Hope all here are working away! Another bad week in Kittyville but determined to work really hard this week so I can enjoy a break away with husband for Easter. My goals were
For Monday:
Finish re-draft of first case which involves:
* type in corrections MOSTLY DONE
* check out the correct left/right plan
* rewrite some parts MOSTLY DONE
* Work examples

For Thursday next:
* Write up background and beginning parts MOSTLY DONE
* Work on second case
* Write it up

If I get the first case completely written up by Thursday I'll be happy enough. Aiming to at least get a start on case 2 though. Must be accountable!

Teek's word count

hee hee what fantastic images :) It's pretty much essential in my field. The finished piece can be a pdf which is great. Also amazing for referencing. Was brilliant for Masters Thesis. Now back to being swallowed up by the little numbers :)

What does your sup expect for weekly meetings?
M

That's pretty brilliant. Just do the best you can do but keep handing up all the time. My sup left me to float after the first mini project and we lost loads of time. Really wish I'd had your experience, especially with writing. My sup is quite erratic. Sometimes leaving me for months and then expecting me to have new results for meetings practically every second day. I think for first year or two once every week or every fortnight is perfect.

It can be so hard not to rest on your laurels when you feel you've done well. Important sometimes though. Last two days disappeared in a puff of smoke for me. Too many distractions and exhaustion. Trying to get back to it today but it's hard. Hope you fare better with your chapter 4. I've not created a thesis file yet. Think that would be far too scary. Using LaTeX instead of Word or such means you can write each piece separately and then join them into one easily with almost no work. It's the best type-setting ever. Especially for maths. Getting really confused between home and uni computers at the moment though so I'll probably have to waste some time sorting that out. Gah.

Congrats on the wordcount. Keep at it !

Good luck Sneaks. I'm also redrafting and rewriting a lot at the moment. It can be so frustrating, especially when one's sup isn't exactly sure about things. Too many distractions not helping either. Guess just have to keep nose to the grindstone.

Thanks Fig for holding us accountable. Really needed that. Finding working really difficult at the moment. Health not great and other life pressures getting in the way. That and sup worried about the time frame for finishing. Still working on the same goals, what's involved keeps changing too.

For Monday:
Finish re-draft of first case which involves:
* type in corrections
* check out the correct left/right plan
* rewrite some parts
* Work examples

For Thursday next:

Really don't feel like it and there's so much in there. Wish me luck!

I love how the diet-exercise-health thread has become and ode to cheese. Oops!

On the health front, having takeaway tonight but trying to choose the healthy-est ones. Compromise is ok right?

hee hee. That's exactly why I can't have words :) Also tend to singalong :)

Celebration Thread.
M

Actually completed a task again today - hooray! It's a piece I've been avoiding writing because it's tricky and I had to get a book from my uni desk 2hrs away. All done now though. Now for an appropriate reward. 10 mins looking at cute things online I think :$

Last on to post on this thread wins

ha. i've finally given in to temptation and posted on this thread. I didn't want to because I didn't want it to die and I'm usually the last one to post on most threads. Either I'm always late or else I have some sort of anti-Midas touch :(

Boursin disappears in our house too, hubby loves it as well. Current favourite cheddar is Ardagh mild red. delish. Oh and Irish Edam is gorgeous but so hard to find.

I listen to swing/jazz for chilling out, 90's pop (or other cheesy tunes) for cheering up, classical music for working to for inspiration without distraction and Country mix radio almost all the time for feel good music.
