can anybody suggest a dutch dictionary?
O

I am not sure for Dutch but I always go for the big names, Oxford for English-foreign language and Langenscheid for German-xy language. I am not sure wheher you were German or based in Germany? Or do I muddle something up? Nevermind if you want to get translations into English I would go for Oxford as they are the "approved" ones.

Thanks for the quote sassy, I could not find it again. But I think it is ridiculous as we will end up with basically no money when I am on maternity leave. I am not sure whether they think that I don't have to pay rent anymore when I am on maternity leave? Oh, and of course there is no need for eating, the electricty bills stop, actually everything stops and you have the massive amount of £112 for going down the pub!
Nevermind I probably end up getting nothing as I am neither employed nor unemployed as the welfare office of the uni told me the other week.

Perhaps you should do your PhD in switzerland or ??? As I think to remember that PhD-students there are older and you get paid for a PhD and you are not a real student anymore. This might be better finance wise? They do pay nicely in Switzerland - ach, good old times there

Cryogenics, paternity leave is one week but only if you have been imployed for 26 weeks 15 weeks before the due date - I hope I recalled the week thing right it is completly stupidly expressed but yes, it is only one week. Better than nothing I suppose but for us with no family at hand still nothing.

after finishing my paper...I got flooded
O

The water collects on the lowest point and as it can neither go in the drainage nor filter in the ground it stays there - normally as puddles then as big puddles, bigger buddles.... (one reason why in former times there were not as many flooding as there were more fields, forests etc and not the sealed surfaces of today). The other component is that all the water from the drainage goes into the rivers which are not free flowing through an open landscape but in cannals. Therefore the flow late increases as more water flows through a defined space and the higher pressure can break damms, walls etc and the water finds some space for itself.
enough geography?
The other factor is that

because there is to much water.

Ok, a more detailed geographer explanation:
Places flood of course because there is indeed to much water. In this case it was rain. At one point during the rainfall the soil cannot take up any more water as it is basically saturated, this leads to surface runoff; in todays case with barely any free soils but loads of sealed surfaces (roads, houses etc) the runoff starts immediatelly. This surface runoff should be collected in drainages; however, this tend to get blocked or are not build to deal with that much water.

shani, sorry for the late answer. I am not sure myself but it sounded to me that if you do not get anything else - in which possition you would be, being unfunded. I have to go to the postgraduate office and tell them this week that I am pregnant and ask whether I get any money or not but I just cannot face it... at the moment I have the feeling everyone is treating me as: she should be old enough to take care. But the thing is - which of course I am not going to debate with any of those people - I was actually told I am infertile and as nothing happend for years I was pretty convinced... therefore I really want to shout at them and say: I am more shocked then you (positive by now but still). But I suppose I have to go and admit to it officially.

Please! I really need one! Don't you think the thread is grown up enough with 2 years 3 month and seven days and 1470 viewers which makes *brain steaming* if we assume that the average user is about 26 years? old and we have 1470 comments which are from *hmm* guess 80 users? then are thread has the average life experience of 26*80...
2080 years! This should be older than Jedi Yoda and when its/her/his life experience started smoking was still something nice and sitting togetehr and smoking a pipe was the social event!
*aaahhhh* it tasts so nice

Gosh, pinkneuron (I am not being negative about having seven kids, my sister has six) but I think it is a big task and I have no idea where you take the energy from - can you buy it somewhere? I am impressed by you my sister and any other woman who manages. I hope I will be able to count myself to this group soon as well and what you say would be probably right for me as well: I would enjoy being a full-time mum but then my brain would starve and I would try everything to get back to where I am sitting now. I should just try to see it as a chance to have both dreams fullfilled at the same time - and my husband and I were just married for four month so you gave yourself loads of time pinkneuron
