morning, £22 lighter and my thesis is in the royal mail system winging its way to sup for guaranteed delivery tomorrow. :-)
Please god I hope she has little to change.
My goal for the next week (around a million lecturing things to do like marking bleugh!) is to read through it enough so I feel comfortable with what I've read (ha!) and to completely overhall the reference list, which is awful e.g. journals missing, all CAPS, author's missing etc etc.
I think indenting is 'traditional' - many of the journals in my field like you to do it. I do think it looks odd though - too confusing on the eye for me!
yes, it does look odd - I think it *was* technically correct, back in the days of type writers etc. But now I think its much more acceptable to just put a space in between.
ok thank you - I've gone through and put one line.
I'll print out and see what it looks like - my sup seems to have an issue with distinguishing betwen paragraphs and would prefer I indent (but I refuse mwahahahaha!)
The space between one paragraph and the next..
should it be one line, or two lines? (i.e. double) or 1.5? ARRRGH!
Goal 1 done.
Goal 2: to make changes to chapter 5 suggested by sup. I suspect she wanted me to make more, but she has not mastered track changes, and instead prefers to mark it by hand and then go over it on the phone - meaning I have no idea what she's on about half the time! And she says vague statements like "so you need to bring some of these things through" ??? so am going to change as much as I can work out and wait for her feedback later.
Hi All,
I need to send my final, final draft off to sup today (in the post :-s ) so I have a lot of final tweaking. She's then going to read it for a week and then get back to me with some more changes lol, but if I don't get it to her looking finished i.e. references, she tends to rip the contents to shreds, as well as the presentation of it. Its annoying habit of hers!
So..
Goal 1: make changes suggested by a colleague to chapter 4.
You have to remember that it isn't a salary as such, so I don't think there is any legal issues (I could be wrong). What I would say, is that your stipend is more than many other PhD students - my hubs was on 12k per year, with about £50 increase each year.
I would make friends with the finance department, as they'll be the ones, not your supervisor, who will be responsible for getting the euro people to pay up. If you want to get this money before xmas, I'd go ASAP and bug them every day until you have the money.
Most people take on teaching to supplement their income, and undergraduate marking as just come in in a big wave of horrendous essays - I'm sure there will be some to pick up so you can get some extra pay in the meantime.
I need to put a powerpoint slideshow into a word document. Well, I just need it to be handouts (6 per page) added into my appendix.
Obviously I could just add it in from a powerpoint print off - but that doesn't work for when I send it to the printers - it needs to be in one document
So how do I do this??? I've played around with it for ages and can't get it to work :-s
ooh I had a look at that and it looks like how I run my lectures - but now I have a name for it!
I'd love to do stats today instead of stupid discussion :-(
I've done goal 2
Goal 3 I'm working on, which is summarising study 3 for discussion.
Goal 1 done.
Goal 2: Read through study 2 and summarise in discussion
maybe we bring to it what we had to do in undergrad, because in my undergrad, if we didn't provide lots of evidence and read widely around the subject etc you would only scrape a pass (e.g. 41%)
