Come on don’t worry and get rid of your thoughts on being thrown out from Phd..Always put yourself in the other person’s shoe. Neither you supervisors nor Research committee members would like to see the research candidate to be thrown out. They gain nothing. In fact, more paper work the research committee and supervisor have to deal with. Instead of worrying on that, might as well, dump the thoughts and spend more time thinking about how to improve your research. Strive hard to complete on time. Make yourself some deadlines to complete chapters, etc.
Hv a luvly Christmas my dear researcher folks, and wonderful Happy New year too.
Well, the more you read good journals on the topics you are working on, the better you writing thoughts would be. In addition, make a habit to write frequently. Practice makes perfect, even though it is hard in the research world. Take my case for instance, I got three supervisors to deal with. Once my first draft of article passed with my director of supervisor, then the other supervisor, the reputable Prof(UK terms;)) not US) would amend the draft. In fact, he would correct the article back to sound like initially i wrote it. Maturity will makes you to come to a conclusion that, the whole research resembles to a half full glass of wine/wtr.... If your supervisor sees and would like to see the half full portion of the glass, thus, good comments you will get. If the same supervisor happens to see only the other half empty portion, thus, negative comments will follow. As a researcher, don’t worry with all this comments, however, try to get constructive comments from all the supervisors. Finally, write your work with your own style meeting the supervisor or journals requirements. Whatever it is, stay put, it is just a phase of research life. Like river tides, this phase too will pass away. Cheers;))
Kindly read this book entitled ''How to Get a PhD: A Handbook for Students and Their Supervisors'' by Phillips & Pugh. Half of ur worries will be gone. U can find a list on concept of originality on Phd thesis and it describes what r considered original work. Whenever d depress feeling shows up, try 2 divert to some other thoughts or get 2 do something. Happy researching, cheers.
The secret 2 organizing ur working day is DEADLINE. Prepare a deadline for any task such as Thesis Chapter u r working on, articleu r trying to complete 4 publishing, etc. Upon deciding d deadlines, do inform ur supervisor. Thus, in that way, it might push ur 2 do organise and complete ur work. Something 4 ur tghts, Imagine, if u keep on going with the stuffs u r doing, u might end up have 2 extend ur research work. Perhaps tiny bits of fear on extra ££ u hv 2 fork out, etc hopefully can help u 2 get organise.Happy researching, Cheers.
Oh dear, u do sounds so .....Come on, life goes on yea, take it easy. Certainly, u will look luvly / smart in ur new dress / shirt. Contentment is the philosopher’s stone, which turns all it toucheth in2 gold; the poor man is rich with it; the rich man poor without it. Hopefully u can recollect d story of d person without legs staring at a shoe being happier than a bloke whom feels so sad realising he yet to have enough ££ to purchase d shoe. Cheers
My dear researchers,
Don’t worry much about supervisors reading our nagging here. Remember, even supervisors were researchers like us b4. Thus, take it easy, feel free 2 grumble and moan here.
But 2 see the Spring, really 2 see it, u must have lived through the Winter first. Thus, we have 2 go thru this species called Supervisor to achieve our goals. Just another passing phase, mates. Surprise, surprise, some of us might end as one in future, hehehe.
Cheers
Waye,
Got 2 ur LRC and borrow ‘’How to get a PhD’’, A handbook for students and their supervisors’. It describes in detail what it meant by originality. It’s written by two authors who conduct training for doctoral students and supervisors & design doctoral programmes. One of them had hefty experience in successfully supervising PhD students. Phillips and Pugh.
Cheers, mate
My dear researchers,
Its all up 2 the employer whom he/she would like 2 hire. If the employer finds hiring some non-matured 20 something doctorate just 2 save operating cost, no 1 can question that!!I reckon matured, experienced doctorate even though could perform better; it costs much higher than the 20 something lot. Thus, the ball falls in the employer what does he/she expects from his employee and how much does d management willing to spend. 2 b frankly univ should realise that and shd ensure some sort of experience gained by these non-matured 20 something lot! Anyway, who cares, lets complete our research. When d time comes, lets face it with thrill.
Cheers.
Its only u and only u can decide where is d best place. 2 be frankly, perhaps u shd ponder at the good old phrase, Contentment is the philosopher’s stone, which turns all it toucheth in2 gold; d poor man is rich with it, the rich man poor without it.
Cheers
Olivia, well, u do sound...Why don’t u try to switch off for few days. At your stage, I reckon it’s not worth 2 quit now. Perhaps after few days off, u shd be able to rekindle back d flame in u to complete what u have started. Whenever the thought roams to ‘’quitting corner’’, try to switch immediately to some other sweet / memorable thoughts. It is possible even at whatever age u r. The only thing is, sometimes its hard when a person have to overcome the emotion of the thing he/she tries to avoid. Well, its easier to say than do it. I know but give a try. Take care, cheers.
My dear Ben, go ahead and finish up ur MSc first. Then, if u have decided to do doctorate, go ahead and do it. All u need is strong motivation and hard working. Don’t worry much on d pessimism that appears here. As d life have its ups and downs, so as doing doctorate. Please ensure that u select research that u r interested in instead of some field because of d availability of fund.
Cheers, mate.
