Hi Cindrella,
Good to know about your progress and best of luck for yr submission today. But, don't over stress yourself by sleeping just 4 hrs. I know it is difficult while we have pressure. Take care of yr health as well. This is our final push and we have to keep going - health too should not deteriorate. My main supervisor is leaving Uni soon and I am worried that I won't get feedback on time and will keep waiting for feedback. Thank god, I do not need to change Uni at this stage, rest of other PhD students (mid way thru PhD) with her are all planning move to other city and very much in a stressed condition as she refused to give supervision while in this Uni and they are not finding any other options. Its sad for me too at this stage but no choice and hoping for the best.
I am again in need of referencing help !
I found once nice line (original idea of Hanny) which I wanted to quote. But, Hanny's idea is paraphrased by Brullie. I quoted as:
“all we need to have is patience on what we do” (Hanny, 2000 cited in Brullie, 2005: 86). My question is: does it say that this is Hanny's original quote? Actually I quoted what Brullie has paraphrased. Bit confused now...whether the way I quoted is right.
What if someone has an original quote:
"Try try try hard until you achieve your goal" (Mira, 2004: 56 cited in Amina, 2005: 56). Is this the correct way?? Thanks, Swetch.
Friends, Finally, I could list contributions to knowledge in my conclusion chapter. Is it necessary to include it in an abstract as well? I have referred some theses (I am in social science) but I don't see others listing contributions in their Abstract. I am worried for the page length for having almost 1/3rd page length of details....struggling to write in short to adjust in Abstract. Thanks. Swetch
Dear Clementine and Beth12,
Thank u so much for yr replies. This made me think posivitively and I did email my sup congratulating her. In reply she assured me that she will support me until I complete. You both were right. I was really upset in the morning but now I have started to work on my thesis - taking it as nomal. Thanks again, swetch :)
Hi all,
I am nearing the submission - about to submit in two weeks time. Suddenly, I received a shocking email that my main supervisor is leaving. She might have time to give feedback for the first drat thesis as she is moving to other uni after two months. But, I wonder where will this take to me? Will my sup support me until my exam? What is the normal practice? Until now examiner not contacted though we finalised prospective examiner. I am really in a big tension...looks like i will never ever get thru Phd.....crying for all day long :-(
Swetch
Hi fm, good to hear from you after so long. Good to know that you handed in the first draft. Wish you good luck for yr conclusion chapter and hope you will make the final thesis soon. Congratulations for the ideal job you got....isn't it a gr8 achievement already? I am planning to submit the first draft by the end of March...even if I am done in couple of months I doubt if I get the job :( filled with uncertainties !! you are in a far better situation cheers :) Swetch
Friends, one more request: I am in need of an article from Sage journal online and I have not been able to download it. If you have an access, please please...
Journalistic practices and science reporting in the British press, Anders Hansen

Thank you !!
Hi Ady, so sweet of you. Thank you for sending positive vibes :) :). BTW, the link you sent to me on Harvard system of referencing has been a great help. It has made my life much easier. Thanks once again for that but I still have some silly questions. Please help me this as well ! The questions are again on referencing:
Craig writes: This is a "mass psychology". I quote Craig as - As Craig says, indeed "[t]his is a "mass psychology"".
Q.1. Is the way I put [t] correct? as I changed it from caps to small.
Q.2 See the problem two quotes together. I then changed 'mass psychology' in italics. Am I allowed to do that?
Q.3 If the quotes I am referring to has American English, should I change to British or leave the quote with what the spelling it has.
Please don't laugh at me.
Hi Cindrella, u r not alone. We all r in the same boat. yeah, our Dec 31 deadline is gone but we have no choice other than think positive. I too was feeling very down few weeks back and could not work for many days. I felt completely blank but now things r going ok after few days of break from conclusion chapter. I felt mental block and therefore was doing easy tasks....reading old chapters, referece checking, entering pending references into endnote, updating a chapter with recent data etc. I am sure u will also come over this phase....lets be positive !!
Hi Cindrella, Glad to see you back. I am struggling to finalize my conclusion chapter. Sups had some comments such as to include implications, contribution to knowledge etc. I found this the most challenging chapter. I am almost done with the rest of the chapters - needs some corrections though. It has been very difficult to keep myself motivated...
