Friends, I am now doing my final corrections before submission. I have used British English throughout the thesis but I am now confused with the quote using American English. Should I leave it as it is? It looks bit odd but no idea whether I am allowed to change the American spellings in quotes to British ones. Please suggest ! Swetch
Thank you Sneaks and Alleycat393 ! I think I would rather wait...By then I will do the rest of the corrections and re-checking the thesis. These are just few pages and the small corrections which I think can be done in few hours. The other supervisor is re-checking my Literature Review chapter again which had a problem. I will get feedback for that this week and I am sure I won't be able to submit in 2 weeks. I may have to wait 2 weeks more. The more the submission time nearing, I am feeling nervous :( Thank you so much for the replies...it keeps me going :)
Hi friends, I am in dilemma. I got feedback from my supervisor on my draft thesis. I was supposed to send few pages (chunks from here and there) for corrections again. I wanted to ask her something and got automated message that she is on holidays and be back after 2 weeks. I will be submitting by then. Just wondering if it is rude to send my work even after knowing that she is on holidays or wait till she comes back. What would you do? Please suggest.
Thanks, Swetch
Hi Bewildered,
Thank you so much. I did understand in that way that I should include references but felt strange. Never thought that References can come into the word count ! Luckily, the word count including references, tables within the chapter, abstract, acknowledgement & footnotes comes to 98,833 which is within the limit of 100,000. My worry of going less than 90,000 too will be solved if this is the case. Just to re-confirm I have emailed to an administration and hope what you wrote is true. It will solve my problem. Thank you so much once again ! Swetch
I am now confused with the word count !! The PhD Programme Handbook in my University states: "These world lengths do not include appendices containing table, statistical material or other document". Does this mean the word count can include everything from Cover Page to the References including Footnotes but Except Appendices? OR, does that mean I exclude References & Appendices? I believe the word count includes Footnotes as well. How do you count the word?? Until last week I was counting the words from First word of Introduction to Last word of conclusion - I did not include Footnotes & word count in the tables within the chapters. The draft was more than 90,000 and never bothered. Now after doing corrections in my draft it comes 89, 300 and it started worrying me. If I count footnotes, abstract, acknowledgement and words in tables it comes to 93,343. The maximum is 100,000. Please do share how you count the words in your thesis. Swetch
Hello all,
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and also for your suggestions. I would prioritize the things that need to be changed in the thesis. In the mean time, I need to polish my literature review chapters which is going to take the most of my time. Need to send to supervisors again. When I sent the full first draft 2 months back, there were no issues in those chapters - the only issues were on Conclusion chapter. They wanted to have a look into the draft again and now they say the best chapter is conclusion ! I have no choice other than accept whatever comes ahead. Now, I am accumulating all my strength to go back to those two chapters...I won't have enough time otherwise. There are many corrections in other chapters as well which were not picked earlier. I will have to prioritize them as u all said. Thank you all once again !! Swetch
I am nearing my submission now. My supervisors already had a look into the literature review chapters and hardly had much comments but now I got my draft thesis back with so many comments - really frustrating when I do not have much time left for the final submission. At this point, I not only lose my motivation but also lose my confidence. Did any of you have such experience that supervisors who had no problem with the chapters having issues later? It's really frustrating!! I wonder why it was ignored earlier...
Q1. I have referenced a brochure from one organization which does not have a publication date on it. But, I wrote (Organisation, 2010) as the Chief of the organisation said that it was just published in 2010 when I asked him in 2010. Is it wrong that I write year as the brochure actually does not have a year listed on it. Does that verbal confirmation counts? What should I do in this case?
Q2. I have referenced one site which does not show updated date. But, I wrote down the year I accessed i.e. (CSite, 2011). I know I can put as (CSite, n.d.) but it looks vague. This is also the same as the previous question. I asked the organisation when did they updated the site, the web master said it was 2011 but unfortunately they don't bother about putting the date either on the brochure or on the site which is making my life difficult !
Please offer some suggestions!
Thanks,
Swetch
