I think why not- if that figure illustrates the point very well or is a subtantial part of your argument, why not to use it in thesis with an appropriate reference to the original. One could just give a reference, but imagine yourself in the place of the reader who have to go to library or to a database to get the source where the figure is, in order to udnerstand what you are taliking about.
it is very hard to keep up trying to get funding if you repeatedly receive rejections. However, just think, assuming you would get funding, do you really want to do a PhD? If yes, keep applying for funding! I didnt get any funding in the first year I applied, took a gap year and then next year I got fully funded PhD scholarship! So, keep trying! meanswhile maybe you can get a job that would increase your opportuities to get funded. For example, a research-asisstant position related to your topic. Maybe the university you will be working eventually will have funding or maube a seniour person with whom you work will write you a brilliant reference letter that will increase your chances for funding. Dont give up too soon:))
If english is your mother tongue than proofreading will be cheaper for you:) Some people charge per hours, some per number of words, so in your case it would be cheaper to have someone charging per hour. Rates are very varied, I have heard from £200-500 per thesis. A suggestion from my experience-choose somebody who has been recommended to you by someone who has used that person's service. Otherwise it will be like with me- I paid for proofreading but both examiners still pointed out many grammar mistakes in thesis:(((((
Wow, so many replies, thank you! Nice to see that Phds have thoughts about the life after their PhD:)) I really like the idea about reading books without feeling guilty, something I have been wanting to do for a while. Camping and cycling sound good but as I have never done it, it might turn into disaster:) And shopping-spay after PhD-great. I add my own idea to go to an amusement park with some friends and have fun for a day. Now finishing PhD looks much attractive than before;)
