Ok.. so this is the stupidest question of the month, I know, but..
What does a PhD involve?
Are you working on your own for 3/4 years or do you have to do work for your supervisor in a structured setting?
How much control do you get over the direction your research goes in?
I would be studying for a PhD in Zoology / Veterinary Science if this is relevant..

has anyone been to the world grad school tour and do you think it is worth going to?
i really want to do a phd but i'm worried about my finances. If i am able to get a funded phd, how much money is average? (my research area would be within veterinary science or zoology.)
i live on 14000 pa gross at the moment (working for a non profit making organisation). please say its at least that!!!
can anyone give me some advice on the overall process of finding a phd and applying?
after 3 years hard thought i have concluded that a phd is for me. i've identified subject areas for which I have a passionate interest (within vet sci and zoology) and am wondering about my next steps. can i find a supervisor by finding someone who is already researching a subject i've chosen and approach them directly or should i wait for a phd to be advertised? do phds traditionally start in october and if so have i missed entry for this year?
