Rutherford - I thankyou for using the word "apoplectic" i think it is my favourite word.
I was chatting to one of the secretaries at uni on the way out, we both yawned and started chatting about being tired, after comparing times we get up (both 7am) she said well its harder when you are doing a real job!!! I was spitting feathers. She wasn't even joking either. I did explain that I have worked in the NHS for 5 years previously and that I was actually quite familiar with hard work, OH the cheeky biatch.
To the nice people who haven't been abusing me:
Im working in chemistry/microbiology focusing on helping in medicine really. Developing smart bandages for wound management. Not sure about the rate of working stuff though, think my supervisor is a little obsesed with publications, but that suit me perfectly. Think my thesis is gonna hopefully be loads of publications stapled together, that could make writing up a bit easier! If everything goes as planned - in reasearch DOUBTFUL
Ok, think i may have come across badly in my first post. It monday so the brain isn't working to well yet, and i think my over indulgence on st patrick's day may still be telling. I'm not trying to show off, I will be extremely pround and happy to see something i have written in print though. Just trying to see what the normal is in terms of publications etc.
Oh and thanks for the link, that was helpful
I'm not a tw@t normally. My deepest apologies
Hi Zokozoko, I had a similar dilemma and am very glad i chose to do the PhD. At the end of the day it depends how much you enjoy your current job, presmably not that much or you wouldn't have applied for the PhD. I chose to follow something that interests me rather than just staying somewhere for the money, because i eventually realised i would rather be doing something i enjoyed. But it all depends how much you enjoy your current job. Also i do agree with what was previously said about a PhD having no guarantee of better job prospects. Plus people on here usually only post to complain or winge about something so dont take too much notice of them as just about everyone i have spoken to in person has said how much they enjoy it.
