new PhD stident with a family
P

Saying a PhD with children is no fun is like saying a job with children is no fun: it works for some, it doesn't for others. Numerous factors come into play such as number of children, ages, income from other (e.g. partner) sources, supportiveness of partner, family and friends, motivation, and so forth -- as others have quite clearly stated.
With any kind of full-time education it's tempting to allow it to take over one's life, though this is not necessarily the optimal way of working.

Money saving - cinema tickets
P

Having read the previous money saving posts I have a few tips for maintaining a social life with no cash!!
We v rarely pay for cinema tickets, nectar points from sainsbury's provide free Vue tickets/ 1000 points, and Diet Coke are currently running a promotion for Vue and Cineworld cinemas. The latter is a draw for 2500 free tickets a day -- which is a hell of a lot. Thus far i've put through five codes, and got three free tickets. However, the two occasions I didn't get a ticket I'd already put one code through on the same day. So I suspect that the vast majority of the time if you put through one code/day you'll get a free ticket...........
From the last three codes I put through from approx. £3 of diet coke I have £13 of free cinema tickets (and a drink to smuggle in when I go!!!)

Strategic Managment online MBA program?
P

Without sufficient examples to back that up you're treading on thin ice.
For many people this kind of qualification is the only option; I'm sure there are many poor programmes delivered this way (just as there are poor programmes delivered at Universities. But to make blanket comments when some places do very good jobs is naive at best, insulting at worst.

Strategic Managment online MBA program?

I know NUMEROUS people who've done v well with online/distance learning qualifications from accredited Institutions. Unless you have a specific example you're prepared to give you need to keep quiet.
Distance learning needs considerable motivation and self-control -- not everyone will do v well therefore some will fail to gain good positions afterwards due to this.
The OU is highly ranked in league tables , the Univ of London do highly regarded Distance learning external programmes, etc...

Strategic Managment online MBA program?

This is simply not true and blanket comments about distance learning programmes are extremely unhelpful. OU is held in v high regard.

Shani - no, it depends upon a whole host of things relating to divorce, not marriage; i.e. how long you've been together etc, etc, etc...
I got married to my husband after 12 months together (tho' we'd been living together for about 9 months of that ) and have been together for years now..... you guys are all so pessimistic on marriage!

However, if a woman sees her life-goal as marriage and babies then I really don't think that should be slated, it's a perfectly noble occupation. In fact, the whole 'bunny boiler' idea is more sexist than many realise -- for it continues to perpetuate an idea that women should be able to manage a career and a family..... whilst standing on her head and playing the violin...

"Some women are sooooo obsessed with babies and getting a ring on their finger, they will give up any of their wants / needs so that they can reach their main 'goal'."

I find this fairly insulting. I think it's an intensely personal decision what to do about names, but one that often hangs on such a simple thing as whether one prefers their own or their husbands name! The reason men are reluctant to change there's is not a reversal of the situation, such implications as 'being under the thumb' derive entirely from it being conventional for the woman to change her name. Equally some women just marry idiot men (and vice versa!)

Idiot professor - STABness!
P

I've queried a piece of work before (mark was twenty marks lower than my next lowest mark!!) after my personal tutor mentioned it. It was marked up; tho' possibly not as a high as it would have been marked if not for idiot tutor....!

literature review or theoretical framework?
P

Only a collection of theories in a very bad PhD.... it should contain aspects of methodology...
OK then GENERALLY most people will find LR then TF works best.

P

L. Review, since you want to place the TF within its context...
