dont u all think "We get treated the way we treat them" (may not be outwardly, I mean, deep inside u may hate your supervisor but still put on the fake smile on u r face)
Morris: Sry, I guess u have written NZL for New Zealand and not NZ(which I am used for)....he he he.. I was daft..
Anyways which uni r u in and what course are u r doing?
thank you morris and sophie,
I guess i have kind of decided. I have got a my offer deferred for a year. Am planning to try out the actual work environment and then try the academic line, so that I can make more appropriate decision in my life regarding my career...
Morris: I would def love to come to NZ. What is NZL.. I have been offered a place at Massey. Good luck
Thanks for all your messages. I guess I now have to do a complete SWOT and analyse the positives and negatives, I am planning to write down all the points on a paper and then analyse.
Krashty, that is exactly what I am trying to weigh, the pros and cons, I have got into Massey. Can you say something more about the uni. I can see it all website, but no one would say, we have a not so good uni, right?
Also, I would like to know the prospects of having a PhD in business other than being in academics.
404: What you say is correct, I have checked the uni and it should not be a problem to adjust to the culture. My family is, well dependent on me, but they say it is your life and you take decisions well and have left completely on me. They should be all right, because I have always been telling them, I would do my PhD and would have to live away from home for a few more years. We are a close knit family and that makes decisions hard. I have been applying for bursuries, but no luck yet.....
My question is, should I go there. I would request you think from my point of view andlet meknow what would you have done if you were to be me. Some info to help you decide. No compulsion from anyone, no much of pressure from family n friends; however family is dependent on me (emotionally and financially). They say it is upto you which scares me more because, i dread to make a wrong decision. I am in mid twenties and have a student loan of 10K. Unfortunately, I havent got any scholarships yet for my PhD. No assurances made as well.
Subject is good, uni is good, but personally, I am not quite sure what can one do after PhD in Business other than academia. I would love to be there, but I should also think of options. Please help. I am confused and am asking whoever I meet, what would they do if they were to be me. Have to make up my mind and proceed in that direction. Can anyone help me, or my effort here is going to invain.
Um...well as my name goes, I am an PhD aspirant. Have been on this forum for a while and was not active for a few months now, because i was refused to my dream project here in the UK. I had my options open and I am doing another degree now which is a MBA from not so great university (because I could not nto afford the international student fee in one of the great unis, though i was offered a place). Now after a years attempt to get a place for PhD, I have managed to get one, but it is not in this country. I have got a PhD offer from a university in NZ.
Well......this is all I get all the time... some philosophical answer.. i know it all.. i want some numbers and get realistic and work on it... I dont know where to get the information and the unis have just said they have no feedback on my application.. or they dont have the time
Well its Nov now and most of the newbies in PhD would have started by now..I am here being not accepted to any university in the UK yet... three 'just-miss' cases :-(. Anyways, will not loose hope. I would like to know the success rate of phd aspirants over a year. Am I 1 in 100s or 1 in 10s. If it is the latter, i guess I may have to work harder.
Congratulations!! .. Good work. I guess now u should change your name to Dr.I know what2donext? .
Btw, I am glad to hear that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have always heard of dark tunnels. Well, I havent still started my tunnel journey, because none of the tunnels are wanting me till now I hope I will soon find a suitable tunnel and be on the end in years to come.
Good luck for your future !!Its an achievement. How did u celebrate it ??
well thanks for the info.. I knew about jobs.ac.uk.. but did not know about work for MP site. Hopefully I will find something there.. but the problem is my suject. It is similar to social sciences, but there is a thin difference between that subject and mine. I want to research more in the field of values, knowledge, skills and attitudes of people in workplace. Not many profs are into this, a bit rare subject.. but dont know what else to do to master in this field! PhD has been my dream ever since I started my college and PhD in this particualr subject is my passion! hope i will get there!!
congratulations!! and good luck for whatever u decide to do
Well, I have had a few rejections in last month and the project that I was hoping to get into, did not take me and dint even tell me the reason for not taking me in. However other unis have given me some feedback and have said that I lack research experience; which is a bit ironical. The whole point of applying for PhD is to do research and they expect me to have some prior experience. I understand if the situation is for non social sciences subjects like engineering or medicine. My situation is different, my topic is more related to social sciences and I am not sure where to get experience in social sciences.
I have had two years of work exp before I started my Masters and that was in a different country (not UK). Can anyone tell me how and where can I get RESEARCH EXP in the field of Management or sociology or related social sciences subjects?
Keira! we will make it.. hang on!! but too much beer is not good isnt it!
Thats bad to hear Keira!.It hurts isnt it!! good thing is that girls can vent out the agony and discontent by crying out either with drinks or without .. but I think we guys are at disadvantage here... we just cry like girls
