Woop woop! I am sooo proud of you Keenbean!! Now go party!!
just ignore her demands, she is throwing toys out of her pram. You've got to look after number 1 right now, so do what you need to do for your viva. You are a researcher in your own right now, you do not need to put her in front of you anymore.
Big hugs x
Hey slowmo, I think what you are going through is totally normal. Well, at least I have been going through a similar thing, so it feels normal to me!
We've just started the process to close a huge chapter of our lives that spanned several years and taken all our focus, energy and strength. It's totally natural for us to feel like we now need question everything in our lives and make big changes (moving, changing relationships, etc) at this key point in our lives.
If it helps, I submitted on the 27th July, and in just over a month before and since then, I left a relationship, started another, decided staying here is not for me, decided staying in any one place long term is not for me, started being extremely minimalist, plan to move to the other side of the country next year, and then to some other country after that. Oh and change my nationality.
I also expected to be elated/sad/happy/etc. after handing in the thesis and I just haven't felt anything. I feel very numb and detatched from the whole thesis. I haven't even touched the thesis since submission. Like you, I also want to hide away, but I keep forcing myself to go into the office to stay in touch with the real world.
I am sure this will get easier as we get used to not having a thesis to work on, and fill the big hole it has left in our lives with other things :)
Wooot! a huge huge congratulations!!! It's so amazing that you got it all done, dispite all the really rough time your sup gave you over the last several months, you truely are a tough cookie!
I know you have your viva in a week, but at least try and get some rest today :)
I had two lit review chapters, and they were about 10k each.... so about the same as yours, only split into two areas, first one covered the data collection method side of the topic, and the second dealt with the data analysis side of things.
Is your 18K all in one chapter?
mmmmm spag bol..... mmmmmmmm......
that's when bablefish is handy.... would've at least saved you 9.5 minutes....
submitted :)
Thanks everyone, it's very strange, it's STILL not sunk in....
but I did just go to town and bought myself a gorgeous guitar, so I am happy bunny :)
KeenBean, keep going, you are sooooo close!
I've submitted, but it hasn't sunk in AT ALL yet...
my one goal today is to hand in my thesis :-)
then I might think about moving into my new office properly...
woooo off to get the theses bound now :)
Keenbean, you are sooooo close, keep going!! do let us know if there is anything we can help you with, I know you have a lot on your plate at the moment.
determined_daisy - congratulations, you really have completed the hardest bit of the thesis writing. It'll be a breeze from now on, editing what you have already written is so much easier than creating new text!
I am currently panicing, printing the thesis out.... how is everyone else?
wow congratulations slowmo! I am soooo happy for you! Agree with Dunni, you should take a holiday/break from it to let your brain rest a while :) if you can't take a couple of weeks off after finishing the biggest document you will ever write in your life, I don't know when you can!!
CONGRATULATIONS and WELL DONE!! (up)
Hey Keanbean, I'm so sorry to hear that your supervisor is being a complete and utter *****!
I can't give you any better advice than what others have offered already, but as a fellow 'got to get it done this month' student, we WILL get through this, even though life likes to throw big spanners at horrible timings. The joy of being bipolar is that we both have the strength to get through times like this because we've been through a lot worse time than this before! We WILL DO IT!
