yes, waffles were yum, especially as I haven't been able to eat one for about two years now because of problems with gluten. I don't really know why I didn't think to buy a waffle maker and make them myself sooner, they came out really well.
Unfortunately, as stated before, they did make me sleepy and so I'm very slow this morning. I am still shifting through the first thesis, I don't think i'm going to finish this by lunch time :(
morning morning :)
I'm thinking now that having home made waffles for breakfast was not such a good idea, I'm all sleepy now.
Anyway, tasks. This morning, I will go through a very relevant thesis and pick out what I want to put into my own. Then this afternoon, I'll do the same with my supervisor's thesis.
I just hope this sleepiness goes away soon...
Poor you sneaks, any sort of infestation in the garden is awful :( I had an ant infestation in my previous house, although I wasn't really into gardening back then so it wasn't too bad. Not a lot you could do to get rid of ants though.
I refuse to have turf now, I need all the growing space I can get for growing FOOD! Plus, I've never known any plant to need so much work done to it. I think I do a lot of gardening now as an avoidance technique!
I think I am giving up on the writing for the day, I have three bags of compost in the car boot and they all need using :D
I've utterly failed at my afternoon task, got to the stage of just not being able to face writing any more!
off to the garden centre to cheer myself up... (why didn't I do a PhD in gardening??)
had lunch and now back to work. I think if I work till 6pm and get 6 papers summarised, that'd be good going for me (I'm a very slow reader and writer).
morning! Well I have to get this chapter (the one I don't know anything about) up to first draft by next tuesday, so that's what I will be working on this week. I'm starting get some 'feel' for the subject area now, although frustrated by not being able to get hold of papers that I KNOW my library used to have before the library decided to skip all the books & papers. Their justification is that we can use the e-journals but they only go back so far :(
I absolutely cannot juggle things! I used to lecture part time, but I found doing it really ate into my time, and so I hardly ever had time for my PhD work. I did that for two years, but then thought that I'd rather not earn any money now but have a PhD, than earn some money now and not have a PhD. It didn't help that I was coming down with a chronic illness at the time (that I didn't realise).
Now that I've only got 7 months till deadline (eeeek!) I've pretty much dropped out of socialising, and handed all the house work to my OH (who is a god send!).
Although I have to add, I have several learning difficulties and a mental illness, so getting this thesis done probably takes a lot more effort from me than it would for others.
I'm envious that you can juggle so much, what's your secret? :D

Hi, I'm an international student as well. It may be that I didn't try hard enough, or maybe I'm in the wrong field, but when I looked into this, everyone said it's very very very hard to get any sort of funding for international students. Any funds available tends to go to the British students, which when you think about it, is quite fair.
I really do hope you find some funding though, good luck :)
EDIT: I forgot to say, you should try to see if your home country has any scholarships for PhD students studying overseas. You'll probably have more luck there.
I only ever stayed in halls for the first 5 months of my undergrad. Having been in a boarding school for 8 years, I just couldn't hack any more communal living and decided to rent ever since. I moved from London to North East to do my MSc, and again rented a flat. Doing my PhD at the same uni as my MSc, and I've now bought a house with my OH. I would never ever ever live in halls again!
Morning troop!
Today, I need to convert all the literature info I found this week into bullet points, so that I can spend next week turning them into sentences & paragraphs.
Also downloading LaTeX atm, does anyone use it? I'm getting sick of word on my mac, it doesn't even scroll properly any more. grrrrrr
I'll probably get shot for this but I am semi glad that the weather is not glorious today - at least I'm not pining to be outside and can focus on my work!
The one I'm nearly finishing was hard enough!
Although I wouldn't mind doing a undergraduate or masters degree after this, probably in another field.
Noooooo! Poor algaequeen :(
*big hugs* to you!
Had an amazing day off yesterday, spent the day in the lake district (thankfully, it's quite close to us) and then learning to make fresh gluten free pasta in the evening :D It was so good to give my brain a break for a day.
So back to work, still working on THAT chapter of my thesis that I know nothing about. However, have thought of a new angle on the whole chapter, that will allow me to talk more about the stuff I do know, and less about the stuff I don't. So task for this morning is to restructure the chapter.
Then it will be nice lunch with friends with salad from my garden :D
