I have pondered long and hard about doing a PhD for some time now and have come to the conclusion that I would like to do so.
The thing is the whole process just seems so daunting and long. How do you keep going on days when you want to give up.
I initially wanted to study in the area of Theology but I do not have a religious degree. So the unis that I have approached are reluctant to take me on. I am thinking of going to another uni and slightly changing the nature of my research / study so that I can attend a secular uni, still want to have one last ditch at the Theology schools.
Any thoughts / suggestions?:-)
First of all I do not think you are crazy. I think you should leave the application there and see what happens.
Good Luck!
Hi there, thanks for this. It has been most helpful.

Hello all - Happy New yr!
I was wondering - if you are funded by the AHRC can you then apply for the *EPRC funding?
*You know the funding body I am refering to - it begins with E.
Thanks
Thanks for that - it does seem a bit gloomy. I did not realise that if you apllied to AHRC you could not apply to ESPR (you know the one that I speaking about).
Thanks anyway!
Thanks Bobby!
And yes I agree embrace the grey - women love the Richard Gere's and George Clooney's of the world!
Hi - I am a black female who has been been heavily influenced by my family to do well and strive for the top.
When I did my Masters I was the only black female on my course, and now I am looking to do a Phd in Communications.
I am a lecturer at my local college and teach Media Studies. It has been hard, but it makes me want to strive for more.
Another large influence for me has been Stuart Hall and Bel Hooks. They also got me interested in Media studies while studying A- levels.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your studies!
Hello - newbie here, just turned 31yrs old yesterday!
Hello - newbie here.
I have read all the replies and tend to agree. It is hard to come up with a title. Currently I am reading a book about postgarduate study, and they advise not to make it seem descriptive.
They also ask what will your research contribute, will it change the way that things are done.
Good luck!
Thanks for all the advice - I a little over-whelmed by the proposal, because i want this sooo badly.
Hey,
thanks for getting back to me. Communitcations.
I have located 3 unis that i have my eye on.
I do not know about anyone - but currently i am in a job that i feel is not stretching me, plus I have a second job that i really hate. I have always wanted to do one - so why not?
For me it is about personal growth!
This is great newsm because I have a 2.2 from my first degree, but I did do an MA, and am hoping that my enthusiasm and a tight proposal will win the day. Am I being too naive here?
where did you get your funding from? If I am granted funding (please God). I will have to continue to work (currently I have 2x jobs) with a possibility of getting another one.
Forgive my ignorance, but are you going to get a private loan? If you are hats off to you and good luck!
