Well I did half a days preparation, not because I thought I could just sail through it, its because I was really ill the weeks running up to it and just felt too rotten to'revise'. In end passsed, minor corrections, but a friend in academia gave me a mock viva the night before which really helped
Goodluck!! I asked a couple of my friends to meet me before hand and wait with me until they called me in. It really calmed my nerves, especially as one was male and really fit and gave me a kiss - I went in with a big smile on my face!
Also, remember that you will only probably be nervous in the first ten minutes or so, you then just settle into it. I actually forgot sometimes that I was in my viva, it seemed more like a slightly scary chat
Definately go to the GP. It might not be medication they offer, maybe something else like cognitive behavioural therapy which can be really helpful. About one third of the population suffers from a mental health problem at any one time, so its very common and nothing you should just have to put up with in silence
