I fully agree with the other posts and would also suggest if he has done this once then chances are he has done it to others too. This sort of person never behaves like this once. Get some help and keep your head held high. You can get through this!

firstly congratulations on your acceptance. I have had a baby and continued to work full time during my PhD so, yes, it is possible. However possible and ideal are two different things! I am studying part time, and working full time, and my son is now two. I had him whilst in my 2nd year. You can always take a short deferment for the first few months, although I continued to plough on.
You just need to be super organised, and not be a fan of sleep, but then that is what having a baby is about anyway.
Best of luck with your start in September. If you have come this far then you will find a way!

I am self funded and work full time and have a toddler at home. It is possible and it is worth it. Some areas of research come with no money, so you buckle down and get on with it or walk away. It is the true test to the validity or hard work

I am in a simmilar situation except it is not that I don't get on with my supervisor, but that the University keep changing them. I am on to my 4th Supervisor in 4 years. Each wants a different focus, a different style etc. I am on the verge of walking away as it seems they have full control of your work, and the students opinion means nothing.
No advice sorry, but I do feel your pain!

I think the people who think they can easily do a PhD are the only ones who will fail! I have learned that it is not about ability or brains, but about perseverance. The challenge will come in a manner you can't yet seem but the challenge is there, and that is why it is a PhD.
All your fears are totally normal, and you do have the ability. Just take it one step at a time. Someone on this forum told me it is like eating an elephant. If you think of the whole meal you will be overwhelmed, so you only think of one bite at a time!
If you don't go for it you will spend the rest of your life wondering if you could have done it. Better than to try and fail, then to never try!

Hi, so glad to hear there are others out there
like me.  I think motherhood and guilt are the same word! I get so frustrated
at work when people moan because they are busy, I want to scream 'You don't know
what busy is!!!' But then I remember I chose this path and most of the time I do
enjoy it.  I just have moments of 'Why did I think this was a good idea?' and
'Why am I doing this?'  I guess that is why it is a PhD, because it is about
perseverance and not just brains (just as well, ha ha!) Keep going girls, we
can do it!!!

I have been reading your posts eagerly but you all seem to be funded, full time students. Is anyone out there working full time, self funded, and a mother of a toddler?
All very lonely out here and after 4 years part time not sure how much longer I can go on! Needs some encouraging words from full time workers who have done it/ are doing it.
It all seemed so possible before having a baby, but now I am working 50 hrs a week and looking after my little one I am not so sure any more.
Words to give me strength are needed.
