Dear all is this also a thread for applying for lecturer jobs? does anyone have experience on that? I have been working after my PhD in unis abroad and in industry but wanted to apply in the UK. My first attempts were rejections although i fill 90% of the criteria except the HEA licence.........anyone got tips on how to proceed? thanks!
Hi, i'd like to publish part of my thesis and would appreciate any help in getting started......how do i pick which part i feel is most likely to get published? (the results?) , how do i pick a "realistic " target journal? and whats the procedure for getting published? can you apply to journals in parallel?
thank you!
Hi,
I'm getting insignificant ANOVA results for my stats meaning i should reject the null hypothesis....does anyone know does this mean I should reject my results alltoghether or is it ok for a PhD to admit it didnt find any results unlike what it expected?
how would you explain that and is it allright to say so if it can be justified?
how do you justify not getting results?
thank you !
Hi,
i've been asked , as part of my corrections to use dummy variables yet i'm abit confused about them.
I've got two types of data:
1. dychotomous (yes,no)
2. ordinal (1 ---7) where each value is equally spaced from the next, ie. 7 is 7 times bigger than one....
so where should i use dummy variables? for the dychotomous data? and how?
thanks alot !
I'm currently rewriting a section on my philosophical stance but i'm quite confused in general as all books differ.......can anyone reccomend an online site or article on this subject?
My stance is positivism and deductive approach but it seems positivism is listed under inductive approaches in many books......is it set in stone or ok if justifiable?
thanks!
im sorry. Can you be more specific? by resubmission you mean after the viva ? how was your viva?
shouldnt the people who check your work help you before you submit it?
in my case the internal examiner was very helpful. you should compare if they asked for anything which was not in the corrections as people have already said.
Good luck with it, hope it works out.
Hi, i've completed my viva in march and although it was succesful I was given what my supervisor calls minor-major corrections (officially called major) which means there will be no second viva and the internal will handle the corrections but the corrections are a fair amount.
I am now abroad due to family issues and will do all my corrections from abroad .i am having trouble getting my supervisor to give me prompt feedback and if i dont finish in time for july i will miss my graduation slot.....
how can i go on about this? email feedback is so slow .......i decided to finish all the corrections and then hand it all in as its impossible to get feedback step by step...
anyone in this situation?
I'm about to have my viva friday and wanted to ask, how do you address diplomatically questions that:
1. insist on someting, eg. "there is no contibution".....do you stick to your opinion, if so how would you phrase it?
2. questions to whom you have no answer.....do you ask for more time? or ask for rephrasing?
I know the viva requires a certain dose of diplomatic skills.....any input is appreciated! perhaps other scenarios too! :)
hi all,
i'm about to venture to the viva next week and am dreading the methodology questions, has anyone been asked why they picked a survey over a case study and why they have a specific philosophical stance?
how do you answer such questions (other than because it suits my study)?
thanks!
