Interview Tips
K

Hi all
Just bringing this back to the top to see if there are any more tips at all? The position is a graduate teaching assistants job, with doing a PhD alongside it. So, if you have been interviewed for a GTA position before, or PhD, what kinds of questions were you asked?

Many thanks

Kirsty

Hi Seven

Thanks for your comments!

The interview is for a Graduate Teaching Post, which would involve a PhD (proposal was submitted in application for the post) and some teaching... which I would image would be undergraduate tutorials.

Thanks once again

Hello all!

I have been offered an interview for a Graduate TeachingAssistant…. I’ve accepted the invite, and am now starting to prepare for theinterview. Does anybody who has alreadybeen through this process have any advice on how to prepare? What kind ofquestions were asked at your interview? Obviously I am going to spend time refreshing my mind regarding theproposal and was planning on re-visiting original texts that I used in thecurrent literature section of the proposal – is this necessary to do in greatdepth? Any other tips whatsoever?

Many thanks

Hi all,

I applied for a funded PhDpost two weeks ago. The automated response to the application said that I should assume that I have been unsuccessful after 4 weeks of hearing nothing. I’m wondering how long it may usually take before universities get in touch? Having spent so much time on the research proposal, I’m (probably like other applicants!) keen to hear if I will be invited for an interview, but concerned that after 2 weeks, it seems unlikely? What do you think?
Thanks!

Advice regarding my future
K

Hi all,

I finished a part-time Masters in Research last September. My undergraduate thesis explored why people from ethnic minorities are under-represented as spectators at football matches (in Britain).... my Masters thesis looked at the differences in spectatorship between older and newer (within the last 20 years) football supporters. Generally, my interests are around ‘sport’, ‘football’, ‘race and ethnicity’ and ‘gender’.

I’m now working, but in a job unrelated to research. I really want a job in research and am wondering how best to go about it. Is the best route to complete a PhD? Without a PhD, is it possible to move up the career ladder in the research field? Are there many opportunities to complete a PhD alongside working as a Research Assistant?

Any advice appreciated.

Many thanks,

Kirsty
