depends what sort of lab work you do but most women here stop relatively early on... what happens if lab work overuns?? surely you need to choose a time for both of you to have a child. it has to be both of your choice.
i have to be in before 10 and stay till 4 ' core hours' technically we work flexi time but when it comes to taking the time off accumulated apparently there is no rule here to say they have to honour it for students. im 'allowed' 8 weeks holiday... would my boss let me take 8 weeks..er no!
people dont seem to speak in my lab.. been here over a year and still not changed!
how i wish she was right and we did get that long off... sadly not!
i agree with huntie you can see by who has published the most in the field who are the key figures in that field hence who you want to work for!
only accept a Phd unless your really interested in doing that project and could see yourself doing it as a career, not as a back up for your other pathway. depending on how late you tell them you no longwer want it will depend on the response. some places will have secured funding and may lose it entirely for that year. in the field i work in its likely someone somewhere would find out one day but if you change field then that wont matter!
i think how you come across in the interview plays a big part, some supervisors have said some (not all) first class standard students think they should get it no problem so dont try in the interview and rely upon their marks.. whereas those with lower marks take the time to research the project etc.. so all is not lost!
i had quite a few interviews and none asked that sort of question, it was more why i felt i was suitable for their project(degree/research experience etc) so a bit of background reading can be useful.
as many as you have the time to fill in all the forms for!!!
january is rubbish.. its cold miserable and what is there to loook forward to!
o ok thanks i will have a look.. dont want scary rash forever...!
i use nitrile ones but doc says seem to have developed an allergy to those !!
an odd topic but PhD related for me...! but does anyone know where i could purchase cotton undergloves to wear underneath lab gloves as i seem to have developed an allergy but struggling to find any websites that sell these ...!!
if he made me tea i think ill fall over in shock!
ok when i applied for PhA i didnt also realise i was applying for position of general slave/admin /cleaner to my boss.... arg! does any one else feel that one sometimes!
