My supervisors raised a query about if I should use ibid/op cit in my thesis...they don't know so I e-mailed the post grad convenor who a week later still has not got back to me. I have trawled the uni documents on writing styles etc but nothing...even went through the librarys help booklets. I am in the social sciences...whats the general thoughts on this at your uni's????
Mmmm I'm just approaching end of first yera and have the upgrade due....I assumed once you pass the upgrade its virtually impossible to get rid of you. When we started we were told that basically not many people fail to complete the PhD and I cling onto that piece of information!!! I think though if its stressing you so much you need to take some pro active steps to get the fear under control and take control of your PhD once again (rather than it controling you) What are your Sups like? Can you chat openly and honestly about your results. Remember just because you don't get the results you expect it is not necessarily a failiure...its just a new set of possibilities!!!!
Yes my kids had the castle set up and expected them to wear crowns like the picture on the box...oh how innocence is shattered through marketing!!!

What do I win if I win????
I assume if they havnt sent any feedback its all ok. But I always crack on with other stuff whilst I wait. I also feel bad pestering them and half the time I don't agree with their commenst anyway and ignore them. I would continue as you plan until they say otherwise, Also if feedback is important to you set some deadlines for them, get them to agree to them and then you can pester them legitimately as they agreed to it in the first place. Have confidence in your abilities this is your topic and whatever feedback they give it is only suggestions...you ultimately know best. x
Ha ha...took you by surprise there

Hi there!!! I'm in my first year just approaching upgrade so sweating a bit at the mo!! I did my first degree in the NE (Durham)so I am reading your posts with a NE accent in my head! Welcome on board, I am a sporadic poster but read daily, lol x
I thought it was mandatory to doubt yourself at least once a week!!! I also went through a dip after about 5 months and wanted to quit hated life etc tec. However I then went to a conference and it really enthused me once again, now I am preparing my upgrade and that has given a lovely clear focus and is organising my ideas. Some days (yesterday) I still get little or nothing done but then other days I rattle off 1600 words. Stick with it 'this too will pass' xx
Juno - I'll pit my two rexes against your fox....I guarentee you will be pleased with the results.....I have a huge Labrador and he is scared stiff of my alien mutent cats!!!
I have one of these:

Am just over half way through the first year and I have to submit the upgrade June 5th and then have my interview June 25th...I am completly bricking it!!! Can't wait to be able to call myself a second year at least then I will at least feel as if I am making progress and my chances of failing will start to decline
