found a lost dog
N

Having worked as a vet nurse I'd say go to you're local shelter of vet to see if it's microchipped. That's a 10 second thing to do and the vet/shelter has access to a database with names and addresses of people who registered their dog's chip.

Good luck!

Teaching
N

No worries!

You have to check with your department, since it varies per uni and department. As a GTA, I have to do 6hrs/wk teaching related duties, so thats teaching, practicals, preparations etc. I usually take 1h per week as prep time, which leaves me with 5hrs for other stuff.

Woohoo!!!

I just learned I passed my MSc with merit and have a distinction for my dissertation! Woohoo! Beers on me tonight!8-)

Your Application Story
N

I graduated from my BSc in Agriculture and Biotechnology in 2009 and went straight onto MSc. Finished that in September 2010 and went straight onto PhD. I'm doing my PhD at the same college as my MSc, so I already knew my supervisor. He sent an email out advertisting for a GTA position which covered fees, stipend and bench fees for a research project he wanted to do in return of 6hrs/wk teaching. I liked the project and I applied first to him, got selected and then had to defend our project to the HE committee of the college. I got accepted 3 hours later and started end of September, two weeks after finishing my MSc.

WHat if................
N

1) I would have found a research assistant's/technician positiom somewhere in the field of my BSc and MSc, but still be in academia, and possibly applied for a part-time PhD.

2) Probably not, since I like what I'm doing now and this PhD will lead to a research/lecturing position in a field I really like. Might have gotten there eventually, but would've taken too much time.

The Apprentice... Anyone watching?

Not just the comment, but the look she gave him... if only looks could kill, Stuart would've been dead at least 3 times... stupid idiot he is...

Quote From sneaks:

stuart should have gone last night IMO, he clearly pretended to learn stuff about not being too pushy or a complete arse over the last few weeks, but was actually just not doing anything.

I loved Stellla's comment at the end when she told the other team that they'd been unlucky not to win and that they should have done! From Stuart's face he knew she was getting at him!

I passed my Viva!

Congrats!

macintosh question
N

It probably easier to ask this on a mac forum, but as a fellow mac user I can only say try to avoid sending large files by email. It's easier to upload them and send the corresponding URL to the receiving party so they can download them.

It might be an idea to give your GP/local doctor a ring to find out... one would think the people that give you test results would explain...

Selection for Experienced candidates
N

Harsh,

Is your CGPA the result of undergraduate studies (BA/BSc/LLB)? If not, I think you'll have a hard time getting accepted, because most uni's require you to have a solid degree before they accept you. If you have a degree, preparation is reading a lot about your specific subject, write a good proposal and read some more. Find out about potential supervisors and study their work, etc etc. Also try to find out about funding. Doing a PhD is not cheap for international students in the US or UK/EU, and being funded increases your chances of being accepted, since not all potential supervisors have big budgets etc.

Good luck... it's not easy getting in, but without trying you won't get in anyway :)
