Hello!
Any - I mean any - idea on how to figure out my monthly pay? It's like trying to make a veggie terrine here! I've got all the ingredients but can't figure out how to cobble them together successfully.
I work in retail Sat & Sun. Say, I worked 20 hours/week, my hourly wage was £10, on Sun I got £15/hr, I knew my NI number and category, tax code and all that shabang, how would I figure out my monthly pay? Plus, do you know of any good websites to put all that info in (for cross-checking)?
Cheers, Heidy :)

Hi Steph, a book I can recommend is "How to Get a PhD" by E. Philips and D. Pugh ... already because it focuses on the word “get”. Oh, and do have a look at the “Tips List” started by PhD Bug: http://www.postgraduateforum.com/thread-10400/ . And if you want to know what other forumites are up to, follow the "One Goal Thread" by Sneaks: http://www.postgraduateforum.com/thread-14514/ . Welcome! Heidy :]
Ah, that's better Fiona - well done for finding the strength to look forward! Dalmation's tips are ace and do calm the nerves, don't they? You may find yourself going through stages of ups and downs as you work through your amendments. Let me know how you get on and if you need a little booster. I admire people that get so far in the PhD process. I'm nowhere near submitting my thesis yet but I have a few friends who have finished theirs or are working on them now so I can sympathise with you. Stay in touch, Hedy

Hey Fionaoz, I'm so sorry to hear about the outcome of your viva... The final stages of a PhD are draining anyway so the news may make you feel even more tired and numb. But please, please don't think of yourself as inadequate or silly! As the days go by, you may remember ever more from the examiners' comments and thereby figure out how to feel about yesterday and what immediate steps to take to get your feet back on the ground. So until someone with a more extensive, experienced take on the PhD process than me replies to you in this forum (I'm very junior in this process), just remember that you are not the first nor the only one to have ever gone through this pain and that you are a very capable person - it's just that, for reasons that may become clearer as the days go by, the examiners felt that your effort was not quite enough this time around. Do get back in touch, Hedy
Hi Tilly, The only advice I can add is this: Listen carefully during your viva. Just so you don't answer a question that they did not even ask and thus either talk yourself "into trouble" or waffle from their point of view. The mind can play funny tricks on us when we are nervous so do take the great advice by Delta and Smoobles to heart. Good luck! Heidy
Hi, I got an A on my dissertation. My uni wants to know if they can use it for a workshop on how to write those darn things that they are doing soon. What would you do? And extra-question: Why do I feel so awkward about it? Shouldn't I be over the moon?! Any replies are very welcome. Cheers, Heidy
