Hey everyone,
Thanks for sharing, it's encouraging to know that we somehow go through similar post Ph.D. I finally managed to get something professional. I started a Postdoc in the same university where I did Ph.D. and what I like most about it is that the salary is same as that of a Lecturer. At least I can concentrate on publishing and other stuff for my development. My first meeting with my mentor last week was weird though because he asked me to compile a bibliography and send it to him in less than a week. I was a bit shocked because my thinking is that postdoc is very different from Ph.D. and my research is supposed to be more independent. Your thoughts or insight? maybe I'm the one who doesn't understand.

Hi colleagues,
I have a tricky issue here. Is it acceptable to use same information, e.g. paragraphs or 1 page for 2 papers with different titles and themes? I am publishing from my thesis and I have found myself in a situ where I have to use the same case study (one used in my PhD) for two completely different papers. The case study can be linked to several themes. Any advise here?
Cheers, Kellykel
Thanks, I'm in Botswana, Africa where we still don't have lots of PhD's but surprisingly I'm still not good enough. It seems the same spirit of jealousy and politics prevails. Anyway I will keep on trying but being in a very unpleasant environment with a hard earned PhD is heartbreaking. I will keep on smiling.
Hey guys, I know this sounds weird but I am not getting any professional job even with a PhD. I have graduated and applied for a few academic posts but I seem not to qualify because of less publications. I recently settled for a very low paying job outside my field and had to hide my qualifications coz I was desperate from a job. Maybe there's someone out there who understands.
Cheers, Kellykel
My people,
I went through the rite of passage (Viva) today and what an experience. I had been asked to prepare a presentation and then the interrogation began. I cant describe the feeling of having 10 + Professors looking at you. I was asked a lot of questions that I didn't really expect. There is only one way of preparing, re-reading your thesis and understanding your topic. I am so excited and all the best to those who are having their viva's soon. To those who haven't done well yet please hang on in there because you will make it at the end. Let me go and party!!!! A pleasant way to welcome the world cup!!!
Cheers, Kellykel
Hi my PhD family. The verdict will soon be pronounced. I had a mock viva on Monday which helped to ease my nerves. I realized that mostly you need to know what you have written. I am a bit relaxed today coz there isn't much I can do anymore. I cant concentrate much. I am too excited though. We all deserve to applaud ourselves for embarking on this journey.
Cheers. Kellykel
Hi all.
My viva is on June 10th and I'm feeling very weird. I'm so grateful for such a forum where we can share experiences. By the way, I am in Gaborone, Botswana, near South Africa and I hope to know my verdict before the opening ceremony of the world cup. I'm not really nervous but some of sections of my thesis sound too complicated for my liking and I'm not sure if I'd answer questions from those too well. I'm also so bored and trying my best to concentrate. :-( I thought I'd be very excited at this stage and all energized because the end is here.... I hope it's normal to feel this way.
Cheers, Kellykel
