thankyou
thanks chococake. 404 the project is funded by the british heart foundation and is an established project by the supervisor. its related to platelet function and they want me to do a 5 min presentation on why i will benefit from doing a phd at their medical school. any ideas? thanks :-)
hi again, I've got an interview for a phd in 3 weeks time and they want me to a 5-min presentation on 'why will I benefit from studying a phd at this university' and boy am i stuck!!
any ideas what i need to cover and what would impress them in that 5min time slot? thankyou, Asim
hi Rmokh,
I feel i'm the last person who should be handing out advice to anyone out there but I think its kinda relevant as i'm in the same boat as you! I'm 24 and finished my MSc in Cancer Pharmacology 8 months ago and have been working in insurance for the past 7 months, and all this time I have been applying for PhDs as I really wanna pursue a research/academic career.
If personal circumstances are no longer a problem then go for it, you might not find something straight away but keep at it and i'm sure you will find something that you wanna do. start by looking for areas that really interest you and apply for any PhDs that you like the look of, have a word with the principle supervisor and go from there. The main thing is believing in yourself and being patient! I have been applying for 7 months now and finally have an invite for interview in a couple of days! hope it helped, good luck, A
thanks 4matt and ephiny, i know what u mean bout being slightly reserved and not all bubbly all the time but i guess we gotta fake it in the interview. i dunno bout the full suit thing but i'll definitely go for the shirt and tie thingy, I mean i've gotta train journey of 2 an a half hours to get to my interview!!
thannks for the advice peeps!
regards, Asim
hi psychgrad, another piece of advice, dont leave it til the last minute to apply coz they'll ignore your application. people who apply early have a better chance of getting an interview. I know this by getting some feedback from a few places i got rejected where they didnt even consider my application. good luck, fingers crossed!!
after 7 months of applying and nearly giving up hope I finally have an interview in 3 weeks time!!! I need hints, tips, advice, anything really!! please help I think I'm panicking! ,-)
what should I wear? how do I prepare? any universal PhD interview questions? or specific ones?
I look forward to your replies
Asim
I'm british (born and bred) and wanting to do a PhD, and have been applying for ages but dont seem to be getting any replies. ive been applying since october but it feels like as soon as Dr's and Prof's see my name on my CV and covering letter they just chuck my application aside!! Its a muslim name. I am even more worried now seeing as someone with a degree and masters less impressive than mine got an interview for the same PhD i applied for and she's english (with an english name). does anyone else feel discriminated against??
hey doctor soul! this phd wouldnt possibly be the one at manchester uni with the title ''Prediction of the Pharmacokinetic Behaviour of Inhaled Molecules in Man' would it? coz i applied for it aswell as was quite shicked to see the deadline has been extended to 19th march!
