although if there are any monkeys who ARE able to dispense expert lab advice, they would be more than welcome to reply as i would not like to be seen as discriminatory (and I would genuinely like to see that - maybe we could meet up in a "jade goody wanting to meet eskimos for a 10 minute chat" type way???
anyway crashing on ...
I think i need to use siliconized microtubes as they are low protein binding for a trypsin digestion protocol, but I am having problems finding a UK company that does them. Does anyone know if siliconized is the same as polypropylene? Any ideas would be very much appreciated!!
Also any chance anyone is a bit of an expert at MALDI/TOF MS?????
Thanks lots
I am funded directly by the university which is probably why the budget is not formally allocated?anyone in the same position?
I am hoping to collaborate with other research groups and have already made some contacts but am not really at the point where I am ready to pursue that route. I just to get some decent results together first!
Its really interesting (although am tad envious!) to hear about how other people get their bits and bobs paid for.
maybe i can start a charity fund for equipment or people can post me the dregs of their chemicals??
blimey Adem - you sound like you have a nice set up!
the area is enzymology so obviously very much lab based, which equals expensive! I just get the feeling sometimes that the university wants me to produce quality research but without having to put any money into it. I think my supervisor is just as frustrated with the situation. sorry for the grumble, just one of those weeks (of which there seem to be more and more!)
Hi,
I am a fully funded science PhD student and was just wondering how budgeting for research works in other universities. I don't seem to have a formally set budget for buying equipment/chemicals etc.. and was wondering if this was normal. Surely there should be an allocation for this? Getting any money for buying these things always seems to be struggle and can be quite frustrating. Would be interested to hear your views on this
thanks!
oh my god- I can't believe you answered the queries regarding your boyfiend (or lack of) seriously. I can only assume that your colleagues locked you in the labs over christmas in order to avoid your constant moaning and whining about how you spend every christmas in the labs.
Now please, stop spending the next 4 years (and 4 christmas's) on various forums that have sadly seen fit to allow slack-jawed canadians access to their sites.
Apologies to any non-slack-jawed canadians out there, my sister went out with one when she was younger and he was lovely.
What is your research in? (honestly - lets be friends)
