I worked for a year before I started my undergraduate degree and saw people doing the same job day in day out. It scared me a little and motivated me a lot I don't want to end up in that position, hence why I'm undertaking a PhD.
It's quite rewarding (although I know I shouldn't say it), to go back home and see the people who used to treat me like s**t who are now working in their corner shops knowing they'll be there for a long time.
Currently enjoying the second year blues. Realised that on the 1st April, I'll be exactlly half way through my PhD which actually scares me a little. I think the secoind year is were you finally start to find your feet and really realise the amount of work that's a head of you. To combat the blues I'm just making sure I do something that does take me a away from my work and more importantly, but more difficult, to stop thinking about my work for a little while.
It depends. When revising then I like complete silence. But when writing I need music, although, sometimes I can get a little carried away with the music, start singing and then all concentration flies out the window... Hence why I try to listen to classical when updating reports etc.
I remeber duriing the last year of undergraduate studies I was revising the night before an exam so took a lot of proplus to stay awake. Consequently couldn't sleep that night and when morning came round had to take a lot more to be awake for the exam (vicous cycle). The exam actually went brilliantly but never ever want to go through that again.
