That's because you have expectations and are a perfectionist. How you do isn't good enough and you always strive to do better. That's how you got on the PhD in the first place. If you feel the other projects and seminars are getting in the way of your PhD, explain this, because your PhD is what matters most.
Hi it would help. Whether it's essential or not depends on the candidate. How you have did in your first degree would also have an impact at those unis (I know because I have contacted Cambridge myself about a PhD research project and they took into consideration what I got).
You have to have proof to say that James (ie a report). I'm dyslexic and I couldn't have gotten a 2:2 without extra help given because of it. I never heard of anyone able to complete a degree and then finding out they're dsylexic (it takes away the whole problem of dyslexia in the first place).....
