the methodology Grounded Theory uses constant comparison to analyse the data. Have a look at groundedtheory.com or do a search on google. It is a methodology well used in the health professions
Beware of confusion! The methodology was developed by Glaser and Strauss in the 1960's, they 'split up' twenty years later and both have different ideas about what grounded theory is. You can either use Glaser's or Strauss and Corbin's.
Good luck
Hi nurseyboy
The taught doctorates seem to becoming more popular in the health professions. I only know what I have been told ... if you are interested in a career in academia it is best to go the PhD route, if you want to stay in clinical practice the doctorate programme has lots to offer - one benefit is that you go through the process with your peers and therefore have much more access to support. I also believe that it is much more relevant to your day to day practice.
I also know that some academics in physiotherapy are a bit sniffy towards the professional doctorate, it may be different in nursing.
All the best
I'm due on the 10th May! I'm not studying atm, just looking and 'plotting,' although I guess I will need to put my plans on hold for a little while ;)
wow amazing! I am also expecting my 3rd, when are you due?
I dont mean to be negative, but studying with 2 is significantly harder than studying with 1. I nearly lost my mind!
But they shouldnt take your pregnancy into account - sex discrimination and all that jazz.
Good luck!
hey pea, wow that sounds great, how accurate are the transcripts?
let us know how the mp3 transfer goes
Also try:
Long, T. and Johnson, M. (2000) Rigour, reliability and validity in qualitative research. Clinical Effectiveness in Nursing. 4, 30-37.
I paid someone to do mine for my masters - I got to the point when I was about to cut my own throat, but I think if I had a transcribing machine (I did look at buying one but they were v expensive) it wouldnt be so awful ...
They reckon 7-9 hours typing for 1 hours conversation if you are a reasonable typist.
good luck
sometimes lendors will hold back some of the mortgage until you can do some work, this happened to me. We had to fix some damp problems within 1 year and they came round to inspect it. Then they released the rest of the mortgage. Its a pain cos you have to find the money for the mortgage and the money for the work, but we negotiated the price down to take this into account.
do you love the house?
what were the structural issues? You know that your offer is dependent on the survey and you can re-negotiate the price.
Hi zelda, what methodology are you using? Are you conducting semi structured interviews?
I would agree that 20 mins seems quite short - but it depends on what you're trying to find out. If your research topic is very narrow then maybe its ok? Tell us more about your project!
DJwicked, are you/were you a DJ?
Just curious!
Hi Hamster - I spoke to the PhD administrator for education at sussex last summer and she said that usually you need a 1st and a distinction but she has seen people get funding with fantastic references.
