IT doesn't always help to be honest, it depends on the individual and what they are looking for.
The closing date for the NHS clinical science was only this week so there's no way you would hear anything until March at the earliest as none of the labs will receive any applications before that date.
Not being funny, but the word Bioinformatics basically describes the course - and I've looked on the website and it goes on and on about computers so not really sure how you managed to misunderstand the course content.
As for a PhD....how did you manage to find this forum but not the website of PhDs? And if you are doing Bioinformatics you will know how to get the best out of a search engine
if you get a job as a research assistant your boss may allow you to register for a part-time PhD, which would take as long as a full time one in the US but you get paid a salary and pay taxes. HOwever, you would need a work permit etc etc.
Have you tried Commonwealth scholarships, with Kenya being ex-commonwealth?Other than that you'd be better off staying in the USA if you can't get one in the UK
you need a minimum of a 2ii to get onto a masters in the UK. However, you have mentioned some of the more prestigious unis so bear in mind that they will have more and possibly better applicants (higher than a 2ii) so also look at some slightly less prestigious unis
